Narrator
North types away on her laptop in the coffee shop. She had to step into work for a few hours because of a mishap with a business deal. She's her professional normal self today. Her hair is in a tight braid. She's wearing a black blazer with a black satin shirt underneath it; black slacks and black heels.
Allie is across from her, playing with her hands. Her skinny jeans are starting to irritate her legs. She has on an old black and white baseball tee and her black plugs. Her hair is up in a ponytail. Today is the day Allie and Alix go on their date. It's also the day Alix meets North.
Allie is a little nervous. A number of things can go wrong. She's stuck on the possibility of both girls not liking each other. Meanwhile, North is unbothered and into her work.
"The clicking of your keyboard is driving me nuts." Allie said randomly.
"I'm sorry." North replied typing away.
"She's supposed to be here already." Allie mumbled.
"Give her time. Doesn't she have to make up a good excuse to leave?" North said.
"That makes me worried. She could've gotten stuck home." Allie said.
North slowly closes her laptop and places it her leather computer bag. She folds her arms and pushes her back against the chair. She stares at Allie. Allie stares back. The stare down is soft and comforting.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Allie asked softly.
North shrugged. "You're cute when you're nervous."
Allie smirked. "I'm not nervous."
North chuckled. "Nervous and worried."
"I mean she was super jealous of you at first. She didn't even want you around." Allie said.
North shrugged. "Even if she doesn't like me she'll probably act like she does for this free date."
"Where are we going? I told her it's a fancy dressing thing. I don't even have anything fancy to wear." Allie said.
"It's a five star restaurant, on a boat that takes you around the city. Don't worry about your clothing, I have something for you to wear." North said.
"You have something for me to wear?" Allie asked.
"Yes. It's a lady suit." North answered.
"A lady suit?" Allie repeated.
"You're going to look great it in. The tattoos add a nice tweak. You'll look a sexy mobster." North teased.
Allie likes the idea of looking like a sexy mobster. She smiles and nods her at North. North laughs and shakes her head. She likes the idea of being able to dress Allie for a date.
"I guess I'm set then, but ..." Allie drifted off.
"But?" North said.
"I don't know proper table manners. I'm not a fancy person who goes on fancy dates like this." Allie finished.
"All you have to do is be yourself and actually breathe when you eat." North said.
"Very funny." Allie said sternly.
North giggled. "You'll be fine. You'll look too good for her to even notice you're nervous. I'll be the reason you get some tonight."
Allie chuckles and looks away from North. Her head turns to the right, toward the door. No one walks through it. The coffee shop is quiet this morning. Not many customers are here to stay on a Saturday morning.
