Narrator
On the verge of being broke, Allie is walking over to her favorite coffee shop for coffee and a cream cheese bagel. On Tuesday she paid her rent and bought extra food for herself. Now she's taking a break from reality and work this cold Wednesday morning.
Alix is currently on her campus switching from class to class. She invited Allie to watch her practice game on Saturday. The last thing Allie wants to do right now is think of a volleyball game. She's going regardless, but it's going to hurt to watch.
Allie's black trench coat compliments her hazel eyes and red chapped lips. Her hair is down, but she's wearing a black beanie to keep her head warm. She's wearing her denim blue skinny jeans and a black sweatshirt underneath her coat; the perfect look for a city girl.
Not too many souls are walking the streets this morning. Today is more quiet than usual as cars pass by and honk at each other. Allie's thoughts aren't as loud as usual today, but the emotional pain she can't numb is starting to take its toll on her unprepared mind.
Allie makes it to the road the shop is on. She constantly turns her head left and right while crossing the busy street. She skips onto the side walk ready to bust through the door.
Allie pulls the door open and feels a rush of hot air hit her in the face; she's home. The smell of strong coffee fills her lungs as she inhales all the oxygen she can. She walks up to the empty cash register line slowly and slides her beanie off her head. She folds it and stuffs it in her right jacket pocket. Small hairs of hers are sticking up from the static.
The booths are empty. The other square tables are taken by younger people, working and video chatting on their lap tops. The small buffet of different types of bread and bagels are restocked. It all looks fresh. People walk in and out of the store - past the buffet and past Allie.
"Hi how may I help you today?" asked the brunette brown eyed man behind the cash register.
"Um, can I have a light and sweet coffee?" Allie asked softly.
"Anything else?" The cashier asked.
"I may get a bagel, but I'm not sure yet." She said quietly.
"Just let me know, I'll add it to your tab whenever." The cashier said.
Allie nodded. "Alright thanks."
"That will be $4.95." The cashier said while hitting buttons.
Allie takes one wrinkled five dollar bill out of her left jacket pocket. She hands it to the cashier and looks around to see if her favorite spot is open. The cashier opens the register for change and takes his time counting the money. Allie notices that her favorite table by the window is reserved by a girl and her laptop.
"Here you go ma'am." The cashier said, snapping Allie out of it.
Allie's head shot back around. "Thanks."
Allie gathers the change from the man's hand and quickly drops it back into her jacket pocket. She slowly approaches the table and focuses her gaze on the girl. Her long black wavy hair stops down the middle of her back and covers her face. She's wearing black heels, black stockings, a white buttoned up shirt with a grey skirt. Her sliver accessories compliment her work outfit.
Her grey thin jacket hangs on the back of her chair. She has a Mac Book placed in front of her view. Her cup of coffee is sitting next to it. She brushes her hair back and looks up noticing Allie. Allie freezes and makes eye contact with her. It's the same girl she ran into a few days ago in the street.
"Hi ..." Allie said awkwardly.
"Hey ..." The girl said.
"Can I sit with you?" Allie asked softly.
