Allie

"Well what do you mean you've never kissed anyone? You can't be serious." North said.

I'm dreaming. I haven't had a dream in a while. We're in the woods. Everything is so green and alive. I hear insects buzzing around. It has to be summer.

North is standing in front of me with her arms folded. We're facing each other. Her hair is a french braid and her black shorts stop at her knees. She has a neon pink book bag on. Her black tank top is tight.

"Well ... no. I haven't." I said shyly.

I fidget with my hands nervously. She's staring at me with a smirk on her face. She looks like she's trying her hardest not to laugh.

I have on normal blue jeans and baggy fades red shirt that reaches mid thigh. My hair is down. Some strands hang in front of my face.

"Well you should probably get to that. What sixteen year old hasn't kissed anyone?" She said.

I shrugged. "Not everyone is gifted."

North chuckled. "It doesn't have anything to do with being gifted."

"Lucky." I said.

"Not even that." She said. "If you had a chance to kiss someone, who would it be?"

I look around awkwardly and shrug.

"Allie." She said.

I look back at North.

"You don't have anyone you want to kiss?" She asked.

"It's not that I don't ..." I mumbled.

"No one at all? Not even someone who's really close to you?"

"What're you implying?" I asked confused.

North sighed. "Oh my god you're such an airhead."

I scoff and fold my arms.

"I want you to kiss me, idiot." She said.

"Woah - North we can't do that ... we're both - girls." I said softly.

She scoffed. "Seriously? Because we're both girls we can't kiss?"

I nod my head quickly. Jesus, was I some sort of homophobe?

"Who told you we couldn't?" She asked.

I shrugged. "... Isn't that just how it works?"

"Okay. Allie. I'm gonna ask you something serious. You can't lie." She said in a serious tone.

"Yeah, okay." I replied.

"Do you like boys?" She asked.

"What do you mean? I mean they're okay ... I guess." I answered.

"I mean like - are they your thing? Like would you date one? Kiss one, all that good stuff." She said.

I laughed. "Um ... sure?"

"You're totally gay." She said dryly.

"What!?" I exclaimed. "There's no way. I'm totally into guys."

"So defensive." She teased.

I scoffed. "You know what, it doesn't matter. I don't want to kiss you anyway."

She smirked. "Oh, really? You broke my little heart."

"Yeah, whatever." I said dryly.

North drops her arms and steps up to me. Leaves and branches crunch underneath her feet. I'm watching her hard trying to prove that I could careless about this whole situation, I guess. I haven't changed in that area.
