Allie

Wednesday morning, Alix met with me in the waiting area of the hospital. Alix couldn't look any cuter with her ripped denim jeans and grey beanie. This is the second time she's worn her varsity jacket. Her chest looks tight in her grey long sleeved shirt as she sits with her legs crossed. She took off her dark blue scarf and set it down on her lap. Her dirty blonde hair is wavy today and loose.

I'm here with my long black jacket laid out across my legs. My white shirt is thin and not doing a good job of keeping my torso warm. My white plugs fit snug in my ears. I'm wearing my hair today in a ponytail as I rub my palms together, completely nervous. My old raggedy bracelets bang together as I felt the circulation in my wrists cutting off.

"Hey, it'll be okay." Alix said softly.

"I'm sorry - just nervous. I don't like hospitals." I sighed.

Alix grabbed my left hand and held it. I smile a little, feeling comforted by her touch and presence.

"Thank you for coming with me ... you really didn't have to." I said.

"I wouldn't let you go through this alone." She smiled.

I nod and hold her hand back. This waiting room is filled with small children and parents. The small TV's that are hung up on the walls are all playing the same cartoon over and over again. The TV's are loud, but they don't drown out the cries of children. Large bullet proof windows allow some sight of the outside halls. The metal chairs we're all sitting on aren't so comfortable either.

A lot people looked at me and some tried not to stare. The tattoos that covered my arms, hands, neck and fingers obviously alarmed everyone. It started to make me feel uncomfortable and Alix noticed it too, but she wasn't bothered by it. I just want to get called, get checked out and get the hell out of here.

"How's work been?" Alix asked.

I turned my head to her. "It's been good lately. Been doing some high priced tattoos."

"Making more money than usual?" she said.

"Yeah." I nodded. "Kind of a lucky week I guess."

"That's good. Good things happen to those who wait." She smiled.

"Yeah? I'm slowly starting to believe that." I chuckled.

"So tell me, Ms. Samson, what're we doing after this?" She asked in a fake English accent.

I laughed. "I don't really know. What would you want to do?"

Alix shrugged and laughed some more. I noticed she's really giggly today. It makes me smile and feel better.

"How about I take you for some coffee and bagels?" I offered.

"Wow, sounds so hipster." She said softly. "I would love too."

"Then it's a date." I smiled.

"I'll be looking forward to our coffee and bagel date." Alix let go of my hand.

I really want to kiss Alix, but in a room filled with people and kids even made me second guess my own thought. We kissed this morning, but it was a small tap kiss. I didn't get to hold her and cherish her like I usually do. It made me a little a sad, but I respect the fact that we're not dating and the fact that she's deep in the closet.

"Allie Samson?" I heard.

I shot my head towards the manly voice and rested my eyes on a tall man whose skin was a little tanner than Alix's. He held a clip board at his side and his brown eyes caught mine. I could tell he was surprised to see a woman so covered in ink. His white lab coat has a breast pocket filled with pens. His hair is cut short, but he didn't do a good job of covering his grey hairs or his shaving skills. His twelve o'clock shadow was a little pimply and irritated.
