**Steve**

I heard her moaning, I heard the screaming and every time I heard her I stood up. I wanted to be in the room with her, I wanted to just tell her it was going to be alright and do whatever she needed.

I knew it wasn't common for the King to be in the room when his wife was giving birth but this waiting was killing me.

Bucky was with me and was trying to keep me busy by playing cards or chess but I couldn't keep my mind on anything but Sophia.

It had been hours. The contractions started slow last night, Sophia and I worked through them together before I called for Banner. When they started to get more intense in the morning I called for Rebekah and Sarah for a woman's perspective. They finally told me to leave and called Banner when they knew it was time.

I tried getting back in the room a few times and was told no by everyone.

"I just need in there Bucky." I said and I heard her cry out again.

"You can't be in there Steve, she can do this. Sophia is strong and will be able to do this." Bucky said.

"I promised to never leave her side in our whole marriage."

"And you haven't. You may not be by her side right at this moment but you are here." Bucky said.

Bucky even had to admit this was hard for him to hear Sophia in pain. He was always there to take care of her when she was hurting, sick or in pain. She was his baby sister, his responsibility.

We both perked up when we heard Banner tell Sophia to get on the bed.

"It's time." Bucky said and I half nodded. My eyes not leaving the door even as I stood up and started pacing. Bucky got up, poured me a cup of mead and handed it to me. I downed it quickly as he filled my cup up again and I drank it as fast as the first one.

I kept pacing, I needed in the room. I went to walk to the door and Bucky placed a hand on my shoulder.

"Steve, stop." Bucky said and I dropped my head knowing he was right. I needed to let Sophia do this. I heard a baby start crying and I looked at Bucky. Soon the door was opening and Nat was walking out with a baby wrapped in a blanket.

"It's a boy your majesty." Nat smiled. She went to hand me the baby. That was until we heard Sophia scream again and I looked at Nat.

"What is going on?!" I asked and Nat took the baby and rushed back in the room without saying a word.

"What is going on?!" I panicked asking Bucky.

"I'm sure everything is okay. Give them a few minutes and I'm sure we will know what's going on." Bucky said convincing himself as well as me.

Soon I heard a baby crying again and I figured it was my son and I just wanted to hold him, make sure he was okay. Take care of him but mostly I needed to get in to see Sophia.

Dr. Banner walked out after sometime and I looked at him.

"Well...?!" I asked.

"Lady Sophia is fine and getting set up right now. She will be ready for visitors in a moment." Dr. Banner said and bowed to me as he walked out.

I was reached for the handle of the door when Sarah and Rebekah came walking out with all the nurses.

"Well...?!" I asked impatiently. Sarah kissed my cheek.

"You are a very lucky man. Get in there and meet your family." Sarah said and I smiled as I rushed in the door and that's when I saw it.

Sophia was sitting up on the bed holding two babies.

"Surprise." Sophia said. I walked slowly to the bed getting in beside her.

"Two babies". I said.

"A boy and a girl." Sophia said and handed me our son to hold. I just couldn't believe these little human beings were now in our lives.

Sophia and I sat in a peaceful silence just relishing in the babies. Soon Sophia was working on feeding them. She didn't want the help of a wet nurse and decided to do it all herself.

I watched her in awe of how she was handling this like a pro. Soon she was laying the babies down in their bassinets that were on her side of the bed.

I watched her yawn and pulled her to me gently.

"Get some sleep my love." I whispered to her as I combed my fingers gently through her hair.

"The babies..." she sighed out already falling asleep.

"Are sleeping. You need to sleep too Sophia." I told her and she just moaned proving she was already out.

I kissed the top of her head a she slept.

"You are an amazing woman Sophia and I love you so much." I whispered with my lips against her head. She shifted slightly in my grip and snuggled into me more. I sighed contently having my wife in my arms and my babies sleeping in our room. Life was finally complete.
