**Sophia**

I was escorted to a part of the castle I didn't even know existed but it had separate bedrooms, living quarter and its own kitchen for the cooking staff. Once I arrived I saw Sarah had George and Rebekah had Alice. I rushed to them and took both my kids.

"Hey, you okay?" Sarah asked.

"I don't know, I mean Steve and I were actually taking time for just us and then Bucky came rushing in." I explained.

"Yeah we were quickly retrieved from our rooms and brought down here." Rebekah said. "But you saw Bucky before he left?" Rebekah verified and I nodded.

"Yeah, told him to be safe and come back to us in one piece, same with Steve." I said. George started to whimper in my arms which set off Alice.

"Come on you two, don't team up on mommy now." I sighed.

"Let us help." Sarah said and she took George and I kept Alice. I looked at the guards at the door and then around the chamber we were in.

"Are we really safe down here? I mean what if we went to the Barnes house?" I asked and Sarah shook her head.

"Your house is exposed. We are hidden and locked down here. Once the troops leave, the gates will close and we will be locked in." Sarah explained. I just half nodded.

"Where can I put the kids down?" I asked.

"Right this way. They are in with you of course." Sarah said showing me to a private sleeping chamber. There were 2 bassinets but when Alice and George were put in them separately they started crying. I sighed and put them in one together and they calmed instantly.

"They know something is wrong." I said.

I sat on the edge of the bed and Sarah sat beside me.

"He will come back you know? This isn't the first time he has gone to war." Sarah said and I sighed with a nod.

"I remember him going when he turned 18, just like Bucky." I said and Sarah nodded.

"Did he have some injuries, of course he did. He is fine though. He will be fine now. He will work on getting back to you and the kids." Sarah said and I just sighed.

"We were talking about my coronation when we walked through the gardens tonight and I kept wanting to put it off...now though I feel like if something happens to him..."

"If something happens to him I will take over as Queen and we will do your coronation then. Nothing changes Sophia. You will still be queen." Sarah said.

"What if I don't want to be queen?!" I snapped.

Sarah was caught off guard and just sat in shock.

"I'm not cut out for that! I'm not ready to rule and make decision for the kingdom and what needs to be done! I don't know anything. I don't want to be queen." I panicked. Sarah placed her hands over mine in my lap. She gave a sweet smile.

"Sophia, do you think any woman is ready to become queen? Let me let you in on a little secret..." Sarah trailed off.

"Which is?" I asked.

"I was just as scared as you are to become Queen but Joseph's mother taught me everything I needed to know. Like I will teach you. It's not like once you become Queen I disappear." Sarah said and I gave a small smile. "Also, you get to make your own schedule as Queen. You want to see people once a week and spend the rest of the time with Alice and George, no one can question you." Sarah added.

I just sighed, "I don't know how to do any of this if I lose Steve..." my eyes filled with tears. Sarah placed an arm around my shoulder and pulled me into a hug.

"Oh sweetie, he will come back. I know he will. You and those babies are his guiding light to come home." Sarah said as I silently cried.

I wasn't sure when it happened but I cried myself to sleep and Sarah had laid me down in bed. I was awoken when the guards were talking to Sarah right outside my room.

"They arrived at the base. King Rogers asked for this to be delivered to Lady Sophia." The guard said.

"She is resting at the moment..." Sarah said as I approached the door and opened it.

"I'm awake." I said taking the envelope from the guard. He bowed and walked back to his post.

I walked back into my room and sat on the edge of the bed. I looked at my sleeping twins who were cuddled together and I smiled.

I opened the letter:

-My Love,
I know this is not how we planned our night to go and I'm also sorry I never brought you into this aspect of my life. I tried to keep you out of it as much as I could. I know now, much like not talking of your coronation, you are in the dark.
Sophia, you are everything to me. You, Alice and George will always be my life and I will do everything in my power to come back to you. Please though Sophia, if something does go wrong and I meet my demise sooner than expected do not mourn too long. Do whatever you need to do to live your life and be happy. You made me promise this with you, now you make me the same promise.
I love you Sophia. Kiss the twins for me everyday and I'll see you in your dreams at night.
Love,
Steve-

I held the letter to my chest and tears filled my eyes and I shook my head.

"I would mourn you forever." I whispered to no one in general but knew Steve would hear me if he tried. I stood up and leaned over the bassinet.

"This is from dad." I whispered as I gently kissed the forehead of both kids. I sat back on the bed and I heard my door creak open. I looked to see Nat standing there and I gave a small smile.

"I was wondering if you needed anything?" She asked somberly and I shook my head.

"No, I'm okay. Are you?" I asked. She sighed.

"May I join you?" She asked and I nodded as she walked in and sat next to me on the bed.

"I know I'm your lady in waiting but we have been close for a long time even before all of this..." Nat said and I nodded.

"We have." I smiled at her.

"I just need to talk to someone about how I feel about Bucky being away and maybe a conversation we should have when he gets back." Nat admitted.
