It had been a month since I got the note from Steve. I still knew in my heart he was okay, he had to be.
We ended up not being moved, from what we had been told, Steve and his army were pushing Zolas men back and overtaking his troops.
The twins were sleeping in one morning and I was up having my hair done up by Nat.
"It's been so long since we have done this..." I trailed off as Nat brushed my hair.
"You need to be pampered right now, something to relax you. The babies are feed and sleeping and you need to relax." Nat explained.
"Well thank you for the help." I smiled at her in the mirror reflection.
We were both silent for a minute and I sighed.
"Can I ask what really happened between you and my brother and why you broke up?" I asked and Nat groaned.
"It was stupid really. We were together when Steve became king and he became his right hand man. I was working with Queen Sarah at the time. We barely had time for each other and even at that point I knew we would be a different class in the castle. I thought it would be easier to just end it and go our separate ways." Nat explained.
"But in reality..." I trailed off.
"In reality we could have made it work, things aren't that different. But it just seems like everytime I would want to talk to him, he is busy or seems uninterested. Now though, it's time to just stand my ground and tell him how I feel." Nat said and I nodded with a smile
"Well once these men get back, you get him." I said.
"What about you and Steve?"
"What about me and Steve?"
"Well it's no lie that you had your check up with Dr. Banner while being here and you are cleared for normal activity again. Anymore babies in your future?" Nat asked and I laughed.
"Well Steve has to get back for that to happen, when he gets back I'm sure the babies will be spending time with grandma Sarah or someone for a night or two." I smiled and Nat giggled.
"You know when I knew you were coming to the castle I was worried knowing how scared you had to be. Then when I saw you walk in, I looked at Steve, he was a goner the minute he laid eyes on you. He knew you growing up but like all of us, we hadn't seen you in years. Steve had to have you and look at your life now." Nat said as she finishing pining up my hair in a soft updo.
"Look at me now." I said looking at my reflection.
"Do you regret any of it?" Nat asked.
I shook my head, "No, it was meant to happen the way it did."
I got thinking about how Steve and I ended up together and knew that yes usually women he called to his bed he never ended up marrying but he said it numerous times that from the moment he saw me he had to have me.
I heard guards talking and bustling about outside the room and I opened the door to find guards flanking my door and stopping me from leaving.
"What is going on?!" I snapped.
"Lady Rogers there are people surrounding the castle! We aren't sure how they past our guards outside. You and the future heir are to be protected at all costs." The guard said.
I looked at Nat the back at the guard.
"Where is Queen Sarah?! Where is Rebekah?!" I panicked.
"Secured in another room." The guard said and then slammed the door shut.
I rushed over to the babies since they started crying during the commotion.
"Hey, it's okay." I said picking up Alice and Nat picked up George. We were pacing with them and gently bouncing them.
There was a lot of commotion outside the castle. It was getting closer and closer. The gates were being brought down. I took George from Nat so I had both my kids if something happened. I kissed them both. "Mommy and daddy love you both, never forget that." I whispered and I held them as tears filled my eyes.
Immediately the sound outside grew louder but it was people fighting back. The fight was here, the fight would end here either way it happened, whichever side won. I prayed Steve and Bucky would be in that winning side and alive.
