**Steve**

I had sent a letter back with a guard that I wrote Sophia the minute I got to camp. I knew she would be mad at me but I said what I thought needed to be said.

It had now been weeks. No big progress was being made. Zola hadn't really moved or made an attack from where we found he moved to. He had the advantage of the trees and forest around him unfortunately so we had to plan for any form of an attack.

"Did you sleep at all last night?" Bucky asked.

"A few minutes." I answered honestly and he groaned.

"You need sleep Steve." Bucky said.

"I'm sorry have you not noticed we are in the midst of a war starting? There isn't much time for sleep." I snapped.

"And if we do end up going to war you don't need to fall asleep on the front lines and get yourself killed!" Bucky snapped back.

"I can't sleep, when I close my eyes I see her."

"Sophia?" Bucky asked.

"I see her face full of fear when you came to tell us about the move from Zola. I never let her know about this and now she is scared and hiding in a bunker. I caused that fear on her face." I explained and Bucky sighed.

"You didn't think it was this bad Steve. None of us did." Bucky said.

"My dad used to say to me as I was growing up that one day nothing else would matter to me. That when I had everything I ever needed in my life that it would be all I could think about." I started off explaining, "I used to think it was being king and ruling the kingdom. That was until Sophia came into my life. She is all I think about. I don't want anything else in my life but my family." I finished explained. Bucky just half nodded.

"We will get you home to her and the kids." Bucky answered.

"King Rogers?" Someone asked coming in the tent where we had been looking at the maps.

"You got an update?!" I snapped.

"Zola doesn't seem to be retreating, in fact they seem to be moving in just slowly. They keep coming no matter how many warning shots we send." The solider said.

I looked up at Bucky and he sighed.

"He is wanting to flush you out." Bucky said and I nodded.

"Which makes me wonder..." I trailed off.

"What?!" Bucky snapped.

"If I should just go out. Try and suggest a surrender from him and discuss his terms." I said.

Bucky looked at everyone in the tent, "Can you all give us a second?" Bucky asked. Everyone looked at me and I gave a head nod saying it was okay for everyone to leave.

The minute the last person walked out I was getting a sucker punch across the face. I knew it was coming. Bucky then gripped the collar of the shirt I had on and threw me against one of the pillars holding up the tent.

"Are you fucking insane?!" Bucky yelled.

"I'm doing what I have to do!" I yelled back.

"You're asking to get yourself killed!"

"I'm doing whats best for my kingdom!" I yelled.

"What about for Sophia? Or Alice and George?! Is this what's best for them? Didn't I just promise to get you home!" Bucky yelled pushing me against the pillar more.

"Don't use my family against me." I growled.

"Then don't make stupid decision that would affect you not getting home to them. I promised Sophia I would get you home to her and damnit I'm following through with that promise. Don't make me want to kill you myself." Bucky said.

Bucky released me and I just looked at him.

"Did you have to punch me?" I asked.

"I told you, you do anything stupid regarding my sister I punch you." Bucky explained.

"But this is about me..."

"Which involved you not coming home to Sophia. We both need to make it back. We both have something to make it back for." Bucky said.

I look at him oddly and then smiled.

"Natasha."

Bucky nodded, "We have been apart too long."

"You have. It's time you make it right with her." I said.

As we started looking at the maps again we heard an explosion close to camp, it shook the ground. I looked at Bucky.

"We need to plan the attack now." I said and rushed out of the tent with Bucky right behind me to help get the orders out to everyone with the only attack we had planned that didn't involve me going to the front line, that would be a last resort.

Days later, men on both side were dead, more wounded

Days later, men on both side were dead, more wounded. I was wounded, arm in a sling, leg wound bandaged up, cuts and bruises all over. Bucky wasn't as bad but he had his fair share of injuries.

"We could sneak attack from the north." A solider said as we looked at the map.

"And how do we get around them to do so? They would ambush us in the denseness of the trees." Bucky said and he groaned.

"Well then let them come directly to us. We line everyone up at the barricade and when they show up we fight." The solider said.

"We don't have enough well rested or well bodied men to do that." I snapped.

"You aren't thinking about it are you?!" Bucky growled at me.

"What other options do we have?!" I snapped back.

"Not that!" Bucky yelled.

I ran my good hand over my face.

"Bucky..."

"No! I'll go for you but you don't go!" Bucky yelled.

"And if you get killed?" I asked. "How do I explain that Rebekah and Sophia?!" I snapped. Bucky just hung his head.

"I'm doing what I have to do. I will just say you want a meeting with Zola." Bucky said and I growled.

"I don't like this at all!" I yelled.

"Neither do I but we are out of options!" Bucky yelled.

As we stood just glaring at each other another solider came running in.

"Zolas troops are riding the lines with white flags! They are surrendering!"

I looked from the guard to Bucky giving a smirk.

"Shall we go see what he wants?" I cockily asked as we left the tent.
