**Steve**

I was standing in my room, my attendant helping me get my jacket on when a knock came to my door.

"Enter." I stated as my mother Dowager Queen Sarah came walking in.

"You look handsome." Sarah said and I just hugged a laugh.

"Right well I don't really know why we have to do these meetings and dinners." I said as I was finished and turned to look at my mother.

"Because your father did them, the people need it. They need to see that we are approachable." Sarah said.

"I'm King, I don't want to be that approachable."

"That's right, you're king! You need to be approachable." Sarah snapped. I just looked at her as she stared at me with her eyes. Even though her eyes, like mine, were blue, they could shoot icy daggers at me and make me do her bidding just with a cold stare.

"Fine." I conceded.

"And you should use this time to find a wife." Sarah added. I groaned.

"I don't need a wife."

"Steven, you need to have an heir. Someone to take over the thrown when you are gone. And I hate to be the one to tell you this but if you have a bastard child with Sharon, it will not take over the throne." Sarah explained. Sharon was a lady in waiting to the queen, but I always had his eye on her and it would only ever be her, only ever for bedding, not for marriage.

"I know that I just don't want to be married but you keep pushing for me to be married and produce an heir." I groaned.

"Just think about it and really look, okay?" Sarah asked walking up to me and placing a hand on my cheek.

"Yes, okay, I'll look." I conceded.

There was a knock on the door and then they entered.

"Guest are arriving." The guard said and Steve nodded. Sarah walked to the door.

"See you out there." Sarah said and walked out. I turned and looked at myself in the mirror and groaned. I didn't want to go out there, it was the same women, every time and yes, I tell them to meet me in my bed that night they gladly and willingly show up but there was no one new.

I was sitting in my chair when I saw my best friend come walking in with his sisters, Rebekah, I knew, and everyone thought Rebekah and I were meant to be married but I thought of her as too much like a sister to even fathom. Sophia on the other hand was younger and even with being around us growing up, I hadn't seen her much of late, Bucky was keeping her away from court...he wanted her to have a normal life as he called it, but being a Duke's sister, your life is not normal.

Seeing Sophia now, a young woman standing next to her brother, I couldn't stop looking at her, she was a sight to behold, and I was captivated.

"Your Grace. How nice of you to join us." I finally spoke up looking back at Bucky.
