I played light music in my car, humming to it as I drove to Rodrigo’s house. I just needed to be away from my family and their crazy passion of marrying me off.

I drove into Rodrigo's mansion as I parked my car in front of his house and stepped out.

“ Hey troll," Rodrigo said as soon as I stepped out of the car and I couldn't be but roll my eyes,

“ Your face is boring," I said and he chuckled as we both walked into his house together.

As soon as I reached his sitting room I fell on the couch in exhaustion.

“ What's wrong? You look down compared to this morning, what changed?" Rodrigo asked,

" I don't know Rodrigo, I just feel like something is off, like that man is planning something and I have no way around, it's just driving me crazy,” I said with a sigh,

" Hey chill, it's just your head messing with you, you came here to celebrate, not sulk,” he said as he handed me a glass of wine and I took it muttering a 'thank you’

" You're right, I'm letting this get to me, what are we having? I'm starving,” I said as I stood up with the wine glass still in my hand.

“ Let's have steak,” he said,

“ You're making it right? I'm too stressed to cook anything right now," I said,

“ Whatever you want princess," he said mockingly as we both made our way to the kitchen.

Just as he opened his fridge to bring out the meat he'll be using, my phone started ringing. I looked at the screen to see that it was my Mom calling.

“ Who's that?" Rodrigo asked,

“ Mom, I'm so not picking that call, the last thing I want right now is to hear any of them calling me to try convincing me to marry that man. Basically, if it was a genuine marriage he cheated on me right? Doesn't matter if it was all set up but he fell for it, so they should leave me the fuck alone. I don't want to marry a cheating husband, period,"

“ Period," Rodrigo said with a laugh.

My phone won't stop ringing but no matter how many times they called, I refused to pick the call.

Rodrigo finished preparing the steak and was serving when his own phone started ringing and he brought it out of his pocket and turned to me with confusion on his face.

“ What's the problem?" I asked him,

“ Your cousin," he said,

“ Emilia?" I asked but he shook his head,

“ Then who?" I asked,

“ Lucia," he said,

“ Why would Lucia call you? If she calls back, pick the call." Just then the phone started ringing again and he picked,

“ Hello Lucia, how are…” he didn't get to finish what he wanted to say, her panicked voice came through the phone.

" Rodrigo, please are you with Lilly?
Her Mom has been trying to reach
her but she isn't picking up, something happened at home I can't explain, I can't…” her voice broke and then she ended the call,

“ Lucia? Lucia," Rodrigo tried but she already ended the call.

“ I think something happened at home, you should probably go and find out what happened," Rodrigo said and I narrowed my eyes at him,

“ Do you realize Lucia doesn't live in our house?" I asked,

“ Maybe something happened that brought the entire family together," he said,

This could be a ploy to get me home, I know my family but what if something happened? I've heard my parents talking about my dad's health. What if something happened to him?

“ I'm not going anywhere, I'm not," I said with a shake of my head,

“ But you heard the phone call, it sounded very serious," Rodrigo said,

“ No, it sounded like good acting," I said,

" Come on, stop being stubborn Lilly, we have to go make sure everything is alright, just trust me,” he said as I looked at him with a pout,

" I swear, I'll kill you if it turns out I'm right and you're wrong, believe me,” I said,

" Let's go, we'll eat the steak at your place,” he said as he quickly packed the food and we both left his house in a hurry.

Rodrigo drove into our mansion as he parked the car outside and then we both walked out as we hurriedly headed into the house.

Just as I entered inside, my breath caught in my throat as it felt like the wind was knocked out of me.

The sight in front of me was one I'd willingly choose death over.

It was horrible.
