'Rylin Begins"

"Second time's a charm?" Rylin asked her father who was sat beside her in the driver's seat.

"You got this in the bag." her dad told her confidently.

"I love you, kiddo." her dad smiled with happy tears filling his eyes. Growing up, he'd wished to have a son who would follow in his footsteps and become an amazing firefighter. He never had the son he wanted. But he was okay with that. He was grateful for his two daughters. He was even more grateful that at least one of them did in fact follow in his footsteps.

"I'm so proud of you."

"Let's avoid making me cry on my first day of training." the two of them shared a laugh before doing a quick handshake that Rylin created when she was just five years old.

"I'll see you later." Rylin smiled as she got of her dad's truck, walking through the doors of the fire academy.

AUGUST 27, 2013

It had been a week since Lilah died. Rylin and her family were a mess. Her parents lost a daughter and she lost not only a sister, but a best friend. It was now time for her funeral.

Why wait a week for a funeral? Everyone though it'd be best to get ahold of themselves and be a little more put together.

Rylin made sure of it because she wanted to wait until she wasn't in denial anymore. She had already cried so much, she didn't need to cry anymore. Especially not on the day she watched her sister get burried in the ground.

Her mother decided it was best that she would be the one who'd stand up in front of her family and give a speech about her beloved daughter.

Rylin knew that wasn't the main reason. She knew her mother took the job of giving the speech because if Rylin or even her dad had done it, they'd have messed it up somehow. She figured one of them wouldn't credit Lilah for the amazing and hard working person she was.

She needed everything to be perfect for her favorite daughter.

"My daughter, Lilah Melony Grace was a superstar. Her entire life, she worked so extremely hard for everything she ever had. She was never a bad student, daughter, fiancé or woman. She lit up every room she walked into with grace.

My dream was to have a daughter... or even son who'd one day follow in my footsteps and become an amazing surgeon. It was unfortunate that neither her or my dreams came true.

She was truly taken from us way too soon.

Lilah, my sweet girl, me and everyone here today will always remember you and we will always love and miss you."

As the months went on, Rylin became a completely different person. She developed a drinking problem. At first, she knew how to keep it a secret from her parents, but they found out shortly after she was kicked out of the academy because she was caught drinking during training.
