The apartment was quiet, save for the ticking of the wall clock and the soft hum of the refrigerator. You paced back and forth in the living room, excitement bubbling in your chest. The little bundle of joy you had always dreamed of was on its way. Peter, your husband, was out on patrol, but you wanted to surprise him with the news. You had spent the whole day preparing, making sure everything was perfect. The house was cleaned, the lights dimmed for a cozy atmosphere, and you had a small box with a pair of baby shoes inside-just a hint of the happiness you were about to share.

When the window finally clicked open, you turned to see Peter crawling inside. He looked exhausted, his suit slightly disheveled from a long night. His eyes brightened when he saw you, but you could sense the tension in his posture. He had a long day, but tonight was special.

"Hey, honey," Peter greeted, forcing a tired smile. "How's it going?"

"I'm great! I've got something to tell you," you said, trying to contain your excitement. You reached for the small box and held it out to him. "I want to show you something."

Peter looked at the box with curiosity and took it from you, his eyebrows knitting together in confusion. "What's this?"

"Open it," you urged, barely able to contain your smile.

Peter smiled and carefully lifted the lid, revealing the tiny baby shoes nestled inside. His expression changed from confusion to shock, and then to horror. His face paled, and his hands trembled slightly as he put the box down.

"Y/N... I-" he stammered, looking as if he'd just seen a ghost.

"Peter, I'm pregnant," you said softly, unable to mask the excitement in your voice. "I've waited to tell you in person. I'm so happy, and I know we weren't trying, but this is a miracle!"

Peter's face fell. His eyes darted around the room as if searching for a way out. "No, baby, you can't be pregnant. We were always careful. How are you pregnant? There has to be a mistake. Maybe the test was false."

Your heart sank at his words. The hurt was palpable, like a dagger twisting in your chest. You had envisioned this moment as one of joy and celebration, but it was turning into a nightmare. You took a deep breath, trying to steady your voice as you spoke. "I took three tests, Peter. All are positive."

Peter looked at you with a mix of fear and desperation. "I can't deal with this right now," he said, turning abruptly and heading for the window again.

"Peter, wait!" You cried, but he was already gone, leaving you alone in the silence. The tears you had been holding back flowed freely now. You sank onto the couch, clutching the baby shoes to your chest, feeling utterly alone.

Hours passed, and you fell asleep on the couch, exhausted from crying. The clock ticked on, each second feeling like an eternity. The apartment was dark when you heard the door creak open again. Peter's figure appeared in the doorway, out of his suit, looking weary and defeated. He walked in slowly, his eyes scanning the room before landing on you.

Seeing you curled up on the couch, your eyes red and puffy, cheeks stained with tears, his heart ached. Peter felt a wave of guilt and regret wash over him. He approached you quietly, not wanting to startle you.

"Baby," he said softly, kneeling beside the couch. You stirred, blinking awake and meeting his gaze.

"Peter," you whispered, your voice hoarse. "I didn't think you'd come back."

"Of course, I'd come back. I'm so sorry," he said, his voice breaking. "I didn't mean to hurt you. I just... I panicked. I didn't know how to handle this. I thought we weren't ready."

"You think I wanted this to happen like this?" You said, frustration mingled with pain in your voice. "I've wanted a family for so long, and I thought we'd work through it together. But now..."

Peter reached out, gently taking your hand in his. "I know I was wrong. I'm sorry for how I reacted. I've been so scared of bringing a child into a world that's so dangerous. Being Spider-Man, I never wanted to put you or a child at risk. But that doesn't mean I don't want this."

You looked at him, your eyes searching his face for sincerity. "Then why did you leave like that? I was so hurt."

"I didn't know what to say," Peter admitted, his voice trembling. "I was afraid. But I went to the compound and talked to Tony, and he set me straight. He said I was an idiot for reacting like that. He has Morgan, and he made me realize that I can't let my fears control me. I want this baby, Y/N. I want to be a father. I want to be there for you and our child. I just needed to come back and tell you that."

You sat up, wiping your tears with the back of your hand. "Tony talked to you?"

Peter nodded. "Yeah. He made me see things clearly. He said that family is important, and I need to face my fears instead of running from them. I'm so sorry for what I said. I promise, I'll love this baby with everything I have."

A small, relieved smile tugged at the corners of your lips. "I just needed you to be on board with this. I'm scared too, but I want to face it together."

Peter pulled you into a tender embrace, his arms wrapping around you protectively. "We'll get through this together. I promise."

You clung to him, feeling a mix of relief and happiness. "I love you, Peter."

"I love you too," he whispered, his voice full of emotion. "And I'm going to be the best father I can be."

As you held each other, the fear and uncertainty began to melt away, replaced by the warmth of your shared commitment to this new chapter in your lives. The future might be uncertain, but as long as you had each other, you knew you could face anything together.

The night stretched on, filled with quiet promises and gentle reassurances. The journey ahead was bound to be challenging, but in that moment, you were ready to embrace it with hope and love.
