You’ve known Peter since, well, forever. Your mom and aunt May were best friends, meaning you grew up practically joined at the hip with Peter Parker. From sharing snacks at playdates to sticking together in high school, you and Peter have always been inseparable. But the way you two acted? Everyone just assumed you were together.

Cuddling on the couch during movie nights, kissing each other’s cheeks when you said goodbye, or just holding hands whenever you felt like it—it was second nature to you both. Even the pet names flowed naturally, with Peter always calling you "bug" or "sweetheart," and you calling him "peaches" or "Petey."

But no, you weren’t dating. At least, that's what you told everyone. Yet, the comments were constant.

"Are you guys dating yet?" MJ teased one afternoon at lunch.

"Seriously, it's so obvious guys," Ned chimed in with a knowing smirk, leaning forward on his elbows.

You groaned, looking across the table at Peter, who just laughed and shook his head. "For the last time," Peter replied, smiling at you, "we’re not dating."

"Uh-huh," MJ deadpanned, rolling her eyes.

Peter shot her a glare, then turned his attention back to you, his fingers automatically playing with yours under the table. You didn’t pull away. Why would you? This was just... how it always was.

It wasn’t just your friends who noticed the way you two acted around each other. It was everyone—teachers, classmates, random strangers who would catch the sight of Peter brushing a stray hair from your face or you tucking your arms around his waist as if it were the most natural thing in the world. They all had the same question: Why aren’t you guys dating already?

You’d just roll your eyes and laugh it off. “We’re best friends,” you’d say. “That’s just how we are.”

But deep down, maybe there was a tiny part of you that wondered if there was more.

_____

It was one of those Friday nights you and your friends had been looking forward to all week. Flash had decided to throw a party at his place, and even though you weren’t always the biggest fan of his loud, extravagant events, the thought of spending time with your best friends made it worth it. Plus, Peter had promised you that you could leave whenever you wanted if things got too chaotic.

You arrived at Flash's place with Peter by your side, as usual. Walking up the driveway, Peter’s hand found yours. “You okay with this? I know Flash’s parties can get pretty wild,” he asked, his thumb gently brushing over the back of your hand.

“I’m fine,” you said with a soft smile. “As long as I’m with you, it’ll be fun.”

Peter grinned, that familiar warmth flooding your chest at the sight of his lopsided smile. He squeezed your hand and led you through the front door.

Inside, the music was already blaring, people were dancing, and Flash was making a big show of being the perfect host. You spotted Ned, Betty, and MJ near the snack table, and they waved you over.

“Look who finally decided to show up!” Ned called out, throwing an arm around Peter’s shoulders. “You two couldn’t stand being apart for a few minutes, huh?”
