Peter Parker had never been more nervous in his life.

The school cafeteria buzzed with the usual lunchtime chatter, students filling the air with conversations about homework, weekend plans, and gossip. But for Peter, everything felt muted, like he was watching from a distance, even though he sat right in the middle of it all. He couldn’t focus on anything—not the sandwich sitting half-eaten in front of him, nor the faint buzz of his phone vibrating in his pocket.

His mind was stuck on tomorrow.

His sixteenth birthday.

The day he'd finally be assigned his dynamic.

“You’ve barely touched your lunch, Pete,” you commented, looking up from your phone with a concerned frown. “You feeling okay?”

Peter blinked, snapping out of his thoughts as his gaze shifted to you. You were sitting next to him, your usual spot at the lunch table, close enough that your knees brushed under the table. His heart skipped a beat. You were so casually beautiful, so effortlessly perfect, even when you were focused on something as simple as scrolling through your phone or taking small bites of your sandwich. How could you be so calm when his world felt like it was about to flip upside down?

“I’m fine,” Peter mumbled, even though he didn’t even believe it. He tore off a piece of his sandwich but didn’t bring it to his mouth. Instead, he fiddled with it, pulling it apart like it might give him some answers.

You tilted your head, eyes narrowing slightly as you studied him. “You don’t look fine. You’ve been quiet all day.”

Peter bit his lip, trying to play it off like it was nothing, but he could feel your gaze lingering on him. It was like you could see straight through him, which wasn’t surprising. You were his best friend—you always knew when something was bothering him.

“I don’t know,” he finally admitted, running a hand through his messy brown curls. “It’s just… tomorrow.”

Your expression softened, and understanding flickered in your eyes. “Your 16th birthday.”

“Yeah,” Peter sighed, slumping back in his seat. His fingers absently fidgeted with the strap of his backpack, which was lying at his feet. “And my dynamic.”

“Ah,” you nodded, your lips curling into a soft, sympathetic smile. “That’s what got you so tense?”

Peter gave a small nod, his heart heavy. Tomorrow was his sixteenth birthday, the day he’d find out what dynamic he’d be assigned—Alpha, Beta, or Omega. And it felt like the whole school had been speculating about it for weeks.

You nudged him gently with your elbow. “Peter, no matter what, it’s gonna be okay.”

“I wish I had your confidence,” he muttered. “Everyone’s already decided I’m gonna be an Omega.”

He didn’t need to say who “everyone” was. Flash Thompson had been the loudest voice in that chorus, constantly poking fun at Peter’s quiet, kind nature. Every day, Flash would swagger past Peter, throwing out remarks like, 'You’re totally an Omega, Parker. Too nice to be anything else. Bet you’ll be nesting by next week.'
