Driving home from the cemetery was amazing watching life come to Lexi as if the miles we put between us and them freed her. By the time we pulled into the driveway Lexi was laughing and dancing to the radio.
Getting out and opening the door for her watching her face light up brings a smile to my face. I can't help but thank Bash for bringing Lexi into my life.
"Go get changed Honey let's grab Judge and enjoy the rest of our day by the creek. I'll make lunch and bring it out to you." I say kissing her forehead as she smiles at me.
"Sounds perfect as long as you plan to join us?" She asks.
"Of course. I think today is the perfect day for some fishing." I tell her following her up the front steps.
"Well I just got a new book so you enjoy fishing. Hope Judge doesn't bother you with his own type of fishing." She laughs heading up the stairs to our room while I go to the kitchen.
As I pack a small cooler of the sandwiches I made I look out the back window watching Lexi throw a ball into the creek for Judge and then set up her chair and pull her coverup off applying sun tanning lotion to her skin. This is a perfect Saturday.
It's been a month since we buried Bash and the way life has become so fulfilled is wild. I think back to the beginning of summer and how angry I was when he was even hinted at and now to the end of summer how in love I am with the woman that is in my life due to a small part of Bash.
Small world.
I hear a knock on my office door calling out for them to come in. I keep packing up to go home.
"Hey Liam." I hear Ronnie.
"Hey. What's up?" I ask putting my laptop bag down.
"What are your and Lexi's plans for this last weekend of summer?" He asks.
"I don't think we have any big plans. I know she is getting excited to decorate for Halloween. She can't wait for the stores to start selling the decorations." I laugh.
Ronnie just smiles at me, "Yeah good luck with that. I was thinking about how much fun the last fire was at y'alls place." He hints.
"I'll talk with Lex and see what she thinks. Don't forget the morning run after drinking." I tease.
"It did help with the hangover but at least we aren't packing a house after running." He teases back.
"What brought this on?" I ask.
"I don't know, I just feel like we don't hang with Lexi enough. We see you a lot here but Lexi only at family dinner. I want her to know she is a part of us too." He says.
"Thanks Ron. I'll talk to her on the way to family dinner tonight and let you know." I say giving him a hug before grabbing my bag and heading out the office.
Walking in the front door I hear Lexi singing upstairs.
"Hey Honey, you almost ready?" I call up the stairs.
"Yeah just grabbing some shoes. Can you grab the basket on my desk?" She calls down.
When I go into her office I see one of her Sweetgrass baskets all decked out with packages and different wrapped items. I hear Lexi coming down the stairs as I grab the basket meeting her in the hallway.
"Hey Babe! How was work?" She asks me standing on her tiptoes to kiss my cheek.
"It was good. What's with the basket?" I ask.
"I was talking to Mam the other day about her favorite authors and I found out her all time favorite is one of mine and I talked with the author and got your mom a few items that are about to be released for pre-order. I thought she would really enjoy it." She tells me walking to the kitchen.
