**EMMA'S POV**

I wake up, and it's 10 in the evening. How long did I sleep? Oh my God...

My phone vibrates, and I pick it up.

× Yeah?
× Finally! You answered!
× What's up? I was sleeping.
× I figured. Are you home?
× Yup.
× Wanna go out?
× Ugh, I just woke up.
× Come on, take a shower. I'll be there in 30 minutes.
× Fineee.

I get out of bed and touch my forehead to check if I still have a fever.

I couldn't tell, so I grabbed the thermometer. Thankfully, no fever, so I quickly jumped in the shower.

After a few minutes, I got out, grabbed some clothes to put on, and then the doorbell rang. Still wrapped in my towel, I assumed it was Mia, so I went to open the door.

I open the door, and there's Scott standing right in front of me. I quickly hide behind the door, trying to cover myself.

"Scott??" I say awkwardly, feeling my cheeks turn bright red as he looks at me from head to toe, grinning.

"Uh, hey," he replies, still staring at me with that smile.

"Did you need something?" I ask, giving him a death glare to get him to stop staring like that.

"Mia," I say, noticing her behind Scott. He turns around to see her, and she's just as confused as I am.

I motion for her to come inside, and she quickly slips past him into the house.

"Scott, do you need something?" I ask him again, trying to keep my patience.

"Uh, no, nothing. I'll catch you later," he says and walks away.

I shut the door, and Mia gives me this look like, "What was he doing here??"

"I have no idea! Don't ask me! And he saw me in my towel," I tell her, heading to my room, flustered.

"What if he tells the guys?" I ask nervously.

"And what? He showed up like a creep and couldn't take his eyes off you."

"Yeah, but he might make up some story."

"Emma, come on. Don't overreact. Just get dressed so we can go."

I start putting on my tracksuit, but Mia looks at me in shock.

"What are you wearing?"

"My tracksuit?"

"Stop, girl. One day, I swear I'll turn you into a proper human being."

She heads over to my closet and starts searching until she finds something decent.

She pulls out a pair of high-waisted jeans and a cropped top in a nude color.

"Seriously, this?"

"Just put it on."

I put the outfit on, and she dries my hair while I grab my shoes. We finally head out the door.

We walk towards the café, find a table, and sit down.

The waitress comes to take our order. We place it, and she walks away.

As we sit there, I start telling Mia everything that's been going on with Lucas. Of course, I tell her everything.

As we're talking, I notice Lucas's group walking past us, and there he is, looking straight at me—along with Scott.

I glance at Scott for a moment before turning away. Lucas notices I'm uncomfortable and glares at Scott, who's staring at me like a weirdo.

Lucas says something to him, and then I see Scott heading our way. I look at Lucas, not wanting Scott to come to our table.

Lucas sighs and gives me an apologetic look.

"Hey, girls!" Scott says as he approaches, his eyes scanning me up and down, making me feel awkward and shrink back.

"Hey," I say quietly, glancing at Mia for backup.

"You're coming to the party in two days, right?"

"I don't know, maybe not."

He wraps his arm around me, and I tense up.

"Come on, it'll be fun," he says with a grin. "But only if you show up."

"We'll see. Not sure yet," I tell him, trying to pull away from his arm.

He leans in closer again.

"You're not avoiding me, are you?" he asks, staring me down.

"Uh, no. I've just got a lot going on," I say, signaling Mia that we should go. She gets the hint, and we stand up to leave.

I glance back at Lucas one more time, and he winks at me with a smile. I smile back and turn to leave.

**LUCAS'S POV**

"Look who's over there," Scott says, practically drooling.

Somebody get him a mop, seriously.

I see Emma sitting with Mia, and Scott looks at me.

"I'm gonna go ask her about the party again," he says and starts to walk off.

"I think you already got your answer last time," I tell him, raising an eyebrow.

"I'll change her mind, just watch," he says confidently.

"Pretty sure you're just asking for another rejection," I respond, and the guys laugh, agreeing with me.

"Why? Someone got a crush?" Scott says, looking at us suspiciously.

"No, I just think you don't wanna embarrass yourself again, especially if everyone finds out."

"I'm not getting rejected again, man."

He ignores me and heads over to her table. I can tell she's uncomfortable with him approaching. She looks at me, and I let out a breath, giving her a helpless look. I couldn't stop him, so I hoped she'd just ignore him.

He talks to her for a bit, and we can all see how distant she's being. The whole group is watching, amused, because we already know how this is going to end.

She brushes him off and leaves, and we all start teasing Scott as he glares at us.

Emma turns back one last time, giving me a glance. I smile and wink at her, and she smiles back before walking away.
