— JANUARY TWENTY FIRST 12:OO P.M. ᐟ
Iris smoothed her hands over her blazer, ensuring every detail was perfect as she checked herself in the mirror. The bright vanity lights revealed the full extent of her makeup—a carefully crafted look that balanced sharpness with elegance. The glow of the lights accentuated her features, & she couldn't help but admire the woman staring back at her.
The locker room was quiet, the dancers still hours away from their rehearsals for the night's show. It gave Iris a moment of peace before the hustle began, an opportunity to gather her thoughts.
She called a meeting with the rest of the staff, who she knew would be walking through the door any minute now, & she wanted to make sure she looked the part.
She glanced over her outfit again, squinting in the mirror as a thought crossed her mind. Was she overdressed for this? She was in a strip club, after all—an environment where casual & laid back were the norm. No one was sporting the kind of business attire she had on. Her blazer, her polished look, felt out of place in a space where most people seemed to dress like they were on their way to a dive bar, not a high-rise office. But it was who she was for now, a legit businesswoman, & no matter how much she tried to shake the corporate mentality & leadership, it stuck to her like a second skin.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a familiar voice. "Yo, Iris? You in hea'?" It was Psalm, his voice carrying through the empty space. She hadn't heard the door open, & his sudden voice startled her a bit. "I see ya' whip outside."
She stepped out of the locker room, making her way to the main floor, where Psalm was standing closer to the front door but making his way deeper inside. He wore a black hoodie pulled low over his head, his posture casual, a backpack slung over one shoulder.
"Hey Psalm, wassup?" She asked as she walked toward him. He extended the bag toward her, a casual offering. She took it, but as soon as he let go, the weight of it took her by surprise, & it dropped with a thud to the floor right in front of her red bottom stilettos.
