— AUGUST NINETEENTH,
TWO WEEKS LATER
1:OO P.M.

Jasiah sat in the sterile, white walled office, his arms crossed over his chest, his jaw tight as he fought against the anxiety creeping up his spine. He had been in some fucked up situations, but this? Sitting in a damn fertility clinic, waiting for some doctor to decide whether he could even have another kid? This was a different kind of hell.

The walls were covered in medical posters he didn't care to look at—diagrams of sperm motility, hormone levels, success rates, all the shit he didn't want to think about. It didn't matter. None of it did. The only thing that mattered was why he was here. Iris.

She was the only reason he had mustered the strength to make this appointment, to sit in this room instead of walking right back the fuck out. If it had been up to him, he would've buried this whole conversation, let time & circumstance decide. But Iris wanted this & if there was even a chance that he could give it to her after all this, he would sit through whatever bullshit came with it.

He exhaled sharply, tapping his foot against the floor, his patience running thin. The doctor was already late, & the longer he sat here, the more he felt like this was a mistake.

Just as Jasiah was about to push up from the chair, the door finally opened. Dr. Patel stepped inside, cloaked in a pure white, clipboard in hand, his expression neutral but not unkind. He offered a polite nod before settling into the seat across from Jasiah, flipping through a stack of paperwork.

"Mr. Brown, I appreciate you coming in today." He started, adjusting his glasses as he scanned Jasiah's file. "I know this isn't an easy process, but it's good that you're taking these steps to improve your fertility."

Jasiah didn't respond, just leaned back in his chair, arms still crossed, waiting for the part that actually mattered.

Dr. Patel continued, "Based on your previous medical history & the tests we ran last week, we've confirmed that your testosterone levels are significantly lower than average, which is directly impacting your sperm production. Your body isn't producing sperm at a healthy rate, which is why conception has been difficult. The damage caused by past substance use has been significant." He flipped to another page, tapping his pen against the paper. "The good news is, we can take steps to improve this. The treatments we're starting today are designed to increase production, improve motility, &, hopefully, boost your chances of conception."
