November 12, 1983

Nancy and Jonathan circled the messy shelves of Hunting & Camping. It was a small store with all the supplies they'd need to kill the beast, finally. Magnolia was by the front counter, standing next to a mannequin wearing a life vest and sunglasses. She removed the sunglasses from its head, placed them on her own, and looked toward the store owner who had been eyeing her and her friends since they walked in.

"Do you name them?" she questioned the older man.

"Excuse me?"

"All the little dead animals," she clarified, gesturing towards the taxidermy mounted on the wall behind him.

He glanced back at them and gave her a raised brow. Before he could formulate any type of response, Nancy and Jonathan walked up and dumped their loot all over the counter. The man looked towards Jonathan as if he had just escaped the mental hospital.

"And I'll have four boxes of the .38s," the younger boy added, unphased.

After placing the boxes on the counter with the rest of the items, the old man's gaze returned to the teens before him. "What you kids doin' with all this?"

They all looked between one another, trying to compose some excuse, until Nancy spoke up, "Monster hunting."

The man only scoffed and began to ring them up.

"Monster hunting?" Jonathan questioned as soon as they were outside.

Magnolia missed the sunglasses as she was forced to face the blinding sky of that overcast morning. "I mean, it's not that far off."

Nancy thought for a moment as they placed their new supplies in the back of the boy's car.

"You know, last week I was shopping for a new top I thought Steve might like. It took me and Barb all weekend. It seemed like life or death, you know? And now–"

"You're shopping for bear traps with Jonathan Byers and Magnolia Henderson," Jonathan continued.

"What's weirder? Us or the bear traps?" Magnolia asked with a smirk.

"You guys. It's definitely you guys."

Th sound of a car honking ruins the moment as it drove past. Some guy, Reed, Magnolia was pretty sure, called out, "Hey Nance! Can't wait to see your movie."

"What the hell was that?" Jonathan questioned.

"I don't know," Nancy muttered, as she walked forward a couple of steps.
