Magnolia's eyes trailed the blue paths Will had drawn. They were laid out across the entire room, like a map. They reminded her of the lights. It had almost been a year since the last time she was in that house. Magnolia suddenly felt very sick. She stepped away from Steve's side and entered the empty dining room. She just needed to breathe. Everything will be fine she tried to reassure herself.
"Sam Owens. Dr. Sam Owens," Hopper exclaimed from the other room. "I don't know how many people are there. I don't know how many people are left alive!.. I am the police! Chief Jim Hopper!"
The military backup Hopper had promised would come, seemed to be a lost cause. Sighing, Magnolia walked back out, giving Nancy a small smile as she passed through the living room and into the kitchen, where the kids were seated around the table and Steve leaned on the counter. She felt bad for Nancy. Their lack of communication throughout the past year had made things awkward, and now, having been caught hanging out with her ex-boyfriend, just made things worse.
"Yes, the number that I gave you. Yes," Hopper continued to talk into the phone. "6767– I will be here," he said as he hung up.
"They didn't believe you, did they?" Dustin questioned.
Magnolia stood beside him and placed a hand on his shoulder, urging him to sit down. She could tell how tense he was. "Calm down," she muttered to him, but it was no use, the boy was worked up as usual.
"We'll see," Hopper stated.
"We'll see? We can't just sit here while those things are loose!" Mike argued.
"We stay here, and we wait for help."

With the chief gone, the kids sat around in silence. Magnolia felt hopeless that she couldn't help. She couldn't fix anything or do anything to make them feel better. There was nothing to feel better about. Without a word, Mike got up walked into the living room, and picked something up.
"Did you guys know that Bob was the original founder of Hawkins AV?" he spoke up.
Everyone's attention was focused on him, now. Magnolia hadn't known Bob, but from what Dustin described, he seemed to be pretty well-liked by Will, which was enough to be a good person in her book.
"Really?" Lucas asked.
"He petitioned the school to start it and everything," the Wheeler boy continued, more upbeat now, "then he had a fundraiser for equipment. Mr. Clarke learned everything from him. Pretty awesome, right?"
