November 3, 1984
During the night, the two cousins had devised a plan: trap the monster, get help, and find a way to kill it. The third step was one Dustin hadn't come to terms with yet, but Magnolia would be damned if they let that thing go on living. The plan wasn't the best, but they weren't exactly sure what they were dealing with. The most knowledge Dustin could share about the situation was that he had kept a baby Demogorgon as a pet, named it Dart, fed it 3 Musketeers, and it killed Mews.
When the next morning came, it was Dustin's job to lie to his own mother about the whereabouts of her beloved cat. Magnolia could've lied easily, but her cousin had created this problem and she wasn't letting him forget about it so easily.
Leaning against the kitchen counter, Magnolia's eyes snapped from Dustin, who was pretending to make a call, to her aunt, who had just been outside calling for Mews.
"Dusty, baby, you're sure she's not in your room?"
Dustin was determined to ban his mother from entering his room, assuring her that Mews wasn't there and there was no reason to try looking. Holding up one figure, Dustin continued to talk to the "person" on the other line. "Uh-huh. Thank you so much, Mr. McCorkle. Thank you so much. You are a true lifesaver. Alright, this was great. Thank you. Alright, have a good one. Bye-bye now. Alright. You, too."
Magnolia rolled her eyes as he finally hung up the phone. He desperately needed to learn how to end a conversation.
Dustin turned to face Claudia with a smile. "Alright, great news."
"They found her?" the woman asked, filled with hope.
"No, but they saw her wandering around Loch Nora."
"How did the poor baby get all the way out there?"
Magnolia's heart broke slightly at the sight of her aunt in shambles. Inter-dimensional monsters were the worst.
"I don't know," Dustin shrugged, "Lost, I guess. But they're gonna look for her. And I'll stay here, with Maggie," he gestured toward his cousin, "just in case they call, again. And you're gonna go help look. Yeah?"
Claudia nodded and began walking backwards to the front door as Dustin urged her on. "You guys are going to be okay?" she asked.
Magnolia nodded, "Don't even worry about us, okay, Aunt Claudia? Just find Mews."
Her aunt nodded and held her hand to her chest.
"You're going to find her, okay?" Dustin reassured, "We can find her."
"We can find her."
"I love you," Dustin said, blowing her a kiss.
"I love you," she reciprocated
"I love you."
"I love you–"
"Alright, go!" Magnolia interrupted.
