Kat's breath was shallow as she trailed the man through the narrow alley, careful not to make a sound. The chaos of the titan attack had scattered most civilians, leaving the streets eerily empty. She followed at a safe distance, her heartbeat loud in her ears. The man with the military cop's badge moved with purpose, his hat casting a shadow over his face.
He finally stopped at a small, rundown cabin nestled between abandoned buildings. Kat halted behind a corner, peeking out just enough to see him open the door and step inside. She squinted, trying to catch a glimpse of what was going on inside, but the windows were shut tight with wooden shutters. Her instincts screamed to turn back, but she had already come this far.
Silently, Kat crept closer, her boots barely making a sound on the dirt path. She crouched near the window, her heart pounding in her chest as she pressed her ear against the rough wood. Voices filtered through the cracks, low murmurs of conversation—men and women. She strained to make out the words, but most of it was muffled, incomprehensible.
Suddenly, a name slipped through the air.
"Kenny."
She had never heard of that name before. Before Kat could make sense of it, a deeper voice spoke, firm and commanding.
"We should meet up with him as soon as—"
Suddenly, a deafening BANG rang out. The sound of a gunshot.
Instinct took over. Kat ducked just in time as a bullet whizzed past her ear, grazing her cheek. Pain bloomed along her face, and blood trickled down, warm and sticky. She gasped, her hand flying to the fresh cut. She didn't have time to think—only time to run.
Her heart pounding in her throat, Kat scrambled to her feet, darting away from the cabin. Her boots pounded against the ground as she bolted, not daring to look back. The world became a blur of shadows and fear as she pushed herself faster, her chest tight with panic.
Inside the cabin, a woman with sharp eyes caught a glimpse of Kat's retreating figure. She narrowed her gaze, recognizing the familiar way the girl moved, the distinct color of her hair.
"That's...," she began, turning to the man called Kenny, her voice tense. "That's Levi's kid. The one always having gigs at the market."
Kenny's smirk widened, a dangerous gleam in his eyes as he leaned back in his chair. His fingers tapped rhythmically on the table, his tone low and amused.
"Levi's kid, huh?" he mused. "Now that's interesting..."
Meanwhile, atop the Wall, Levi and Erwin stood in tense silence, the weight of the recent battle still heavy on their shoulders. Levi's gaze was distant, scanning the horizon for any sign of the Colossal or Armored Titans, yet they remained frustratingly elusive.
Erwin's brow furrowed, breaking the silence. "The Colossal and Armored Titans... they've vanished. No trace of them since the initial attack."
Levi's face was unreadable, but a flicker of concern flashed in his eyes before he quickly buried it. Just then, his squad gathered at the base of the Wall, their expressions a mixture of exhaustion and relief. Erwin stepped forward to address them, his commanding voice cutting through the quiet.
"Report."
Petra stepped forward, saluting. "All civilians have been evacuated into Wall Rose, and the titans nearest the breach have been eliminated. But more are still coming through the hole left by the Armored Titan."
Erwin nodded. "Good work. Continue to fortify the area and prepare to evacuate."
As the soldiers began dispersing, Levi's eyes flickered over the group, his sharp gaze noticing something—or rather, someone—missing. His chest tightened ever so slightly, though his face remained impassive.
"Where's Kat?" His voice, though calm, had a certain edge to it.
The squad members shifted uneasily, exchanging glances before one of them spoke up, hesitant. "We... haven't seen her since the initial split, Heichou."
Levi's eyes narrowed. He didn't move, didn't speak. He simply stared into the distance, his face a mask of cold indifference. But beneath that, a flicker of worry gnawed at him. She's fine. She'll be fine, right? he thought to himself.
He exhaled sharply through his nose, turning his back on the squad as he began walking towards the edge of the Wall.
"We're heading back to Wall Rose," he ordered, his voice devoid of emotion. "Let's move."
As they launched into the air, maneuvering through the sky with their ODM gear, Erwin flew alongside Levi, his voice low but laced with reassurance. "She'll be alright. Kat's capable—she's strong."
Levi's response was clipped, his tone as cold as ever. "Focus on the mission, Tanchou. We've got more important matters at hand."
Erwin's eyes softened for a brief moment, aware of the turmoil beneath Levi's steely exterior. He had known Levi long enough to understand his silence—his refusal to show worry.
Levi's thoughts, however, were miles away. No matter how much he tried to ignore it, the thought of Kat running into danger, confronting titans she wasn't ready to face, wouldn't leave his mind. And Kenny... he thought bitterly, his grip tightening on his blades. She needs to get stronger.... if she ever crosses paths with him...
His eyes darkened.
..She won't stand a chance.
Little did he know!
