Kat burst into Erwin's office, her heart racing, her breath uneven. The earlier gunshot still echoed in her mind, rattling her with every step. She stumbled forward, her trembling hands clutching the crumpled papers to her chest.
"Tanchou!" she gasped, thrusting the documents at him with a sense of urgency. "This is proof... it's all Kenny's doing!" Her words were rushed, her voice shaky as she fought to steady her breath. "Even my father—he was falsely accused. And me, everything... all of it, it's Kenny's plan..."
Her hands shook uncontrollably, her fingers fumbling with the papers as they slipped from her grip. "And now—Levi... Levi-heichou..." Her voice faltered, barely holding back tears, her mind flashing back to the moment Levi shoved the documents into her hands, sacrificing himself so she could escape.
"Kat..." Erwin started, his deep voice calm but firm.
But she wasn't listening. "Tanchou!" she yelled, desperation breaking through. "Heichou is in trouble!" Her voice cracked as she grabbed Erwin's sleeve, her eyes wide with panic. She couldn't shake the fear that was gnawing at her chest.
"Kat!" Erwin's tone sharpened just enough to stop her frantic outburst. He placed a steady hand on her shoulder, grounding her in the present. "Calm down."
"But—" she stammered, her eyes filling with tears, her breath catching in her throat.
"Levi will be fine," Erwin assured her, his voice softening but still resolute. His gaze was unwavering as he met her tear-filled eyes. "He's Levi, after all." There was a confidence in his voice, as if Levi's name alone held a guarantee of survival. It was a statement meant to reassure, but the heaviness in Kat's heart didn't lighten.
She blinked, momentarily caught off guard by the trust in Erwin's voice. Her mind was still spinning, replaying the scene in the bar, the split-second decision Levi had made to protect her, the sound of the gunshot ringing out like a death knell. But Erwin's calm presence forced her to breathe, even as her hands fidgeted anxiously.
"And," Erwin continued, his eyes flicking to the doorway where one of his men appeared, "we've already sent our scouts. They'll reach him soon." His voice held the weight of authority, a silent promise that help was already on the way.
Kat nodded slowly, her heart still heavy with fear. But a small part of her clung to the hope that Levi, the unbreakable captain, would survive—because he always did. Even though he was out there, facing Kenny's wrath alone, Kat had to trust in his strength, just as Erwin did.
But that gnawing feeling of dread wouldn't fully leave her, not until she saw him safe with her own eyes.

Hours had passed, each minute stretching painfully long as Kat paced the terrace of the Scout Headquarters, her eyes scanning the horizon for any sign, any news, any small indication of Levi's return. The wind whipped through the open air, cool against her skin, but the cold was the last thing on her mind. All she could think about was him—whether he was safe, whether he was hurt, whether she'd see him again.
Her heart raced as she hugged herself tighter, trying to calm the storm inside her chest. She kept replaying the moment they had parted, his words, the urgency in his eyes. How could she have left him behind? Was he still fighting, still pushing through despite the odds?
Suddenly, a voice cut through her anxious thoughts, low and familiar. "Tch... you're gonna catch a cold up here."
Her breath caught in her throat, her entire body freezing in disbelief. That voice.
Kat's eyes widened, her heart leaping in her chest. She spun around, and there he was, standing in the doorway with that ever-familiar scowl on his face, though his eyes were softer, more tired than usual. But it didn't matter—he was here. He was safe.
"Hei-chou..." she whispered, her voice barely audible, but her happiness was undeniable.
Without thinking, Kat bolted toward him, her feet carrying her faster than she realized. All the fear, all the tension melted away as she closed the distance between them. In an instant, before Levi could react, her arms wrapped around him tightly, pulling him into an embrace filled with relief and joy.
A small, unexpected smile crept onto Levi's lips as he felt her warmth envelop him. He didn't push her away. In fact, as she clung to him, he found himself wrapping his arms around her in return, something unspoken passing between them in that quiet moment. He had never seen her like this before, so free, so unguarded. And for once, he let his own guard down too.
Kat, with her face buried against his chest, whispered softly, her voice trembling with emotion, "Thank god... taskete... okairi." Her words, mixed with her relief, were raw and honest, her happiness shining through every syllable.
Levi closed his eyes, allowing himself to feel the weight of the moment. His arms tightened around her, his voice low and warm as he responded, "Tadaima." The softness in his eyes was something few ever saw, but here, with her, it was undeniable.
He was home, and for the first time in a long while, it felt like more than just a word.
