The next day, Levi's new squad found themselves out on a routine mission, moving swiftly along the rooftops. The silence between the team was thick, with only the sound of their ODM gear slicing through the air. Levi kept his pace steady ahead of them, while Kat fell in beside him. For the first time in days, their interaction felt normal.

"Keep your eyes open," Levi muttered, scanning the horizon.

Kat nodded, her voice low. "What's the plan for when we reach the next post?"

Levi glanced over briefly before dividing roles for the squad. "Jean, you take the left flank. Mikasa, cover the rear. Eren, you stay with me."

Kat's gaze shifted as Levi spoke, always on alert, but something felt... off. At that exact moment, Levi's eyes widened ever so slightly—a subtle movement, but enough for her to know that he had sensed it too.

A titan.

In one swift motion, an enormous titan ambushed the squad, its massive form looming over them from behind a building.

"Move!" Levi shouted as everyone propelled themselves to safer ground. The team scattered, but amidst the chaos, Armin froze, paralyzed by the sight of the titan's grotesque face right in front of him.

"Armin!" Eren screamed, panic flashing across his face as he tried to reach his friend. But the titan was too close.

Without a second thought, Kat sprung into action. Her heart raced as she shot towards Armin, grabbing him just in time and propelling him to safety. As soon as Armin was clear, she turned back, facing the titan with steely determination.

The titan swung at her, but Kat swiftly dodged, propelling herself into the air with a graceful spin

The titan swung at her, but Kat swiftly dodged, propelling herself into the air with a graceful spin. Her blades found the nape of the titan's neck in one precise strike, slicing through it cleanly. The massive creature crumbled to the ground, lifeless.

The squad was stunned. Eren's eyes lit up with admiration. "Good going, Kat-senpai!" he called, awe clear in his voice.

Mikasa gave a curt nod.

Armin, still shaken but grateful, whispered, "Arigato... I'll be more careful next time."

Jean watched the entire scene unfold, thinking to himself. That reaction... It was so quick, none of us even had time to spring into action. Kat was already moving before we could react. He couldn't help but notice the precision in her movements—the way she handled her blades, her smooth, exact movements. It reminded him of someone. Is this what people meant when they called her 'Levi's kid'?

He turned his gaze to Levi, expecting suspicion or coldness, but instead, Jean saw something else. Levi stood still, his eyes focused intently on Kat—not with the usual distrust that had lingered over her since the trial, but with a calm pride.

Jean narrowed his eyes, wondering. Does he trust her? Even after everything... even after everything that happened to his squad...? His thoughts were abruptly cut off when a sudden, sharp roar of a titan echoed through the air.

Out of nowhere, a titan lunged from behind, its massive hand wrapping around Kat's waist. The grip was tight, and she gasped as she was lifted into the air, the titan's wide, gaping mouth opening beneath her. The others barely had time to react.

Suddenly, there was a sharp, slicing sound—like a blade cutting through the air with lightning speed. The titan's hand was severed into multiple pieces, blood spraying as its grip loosened. Kat began to freefall, tumbling toward the titan's open mouth. Time seemed to slow, her heart hammering in her chest as the dark void of the titan's mouth grew closer.

At that exact moment, Levi who just cut through the titan's arm, propelled himself towards Kat. In one swift motion, he wrapped an arm around Kat's waist, pulling her away from the titan's jaws just as Mikasa slashed through the nape of the titan, killing it instantly.

They landed on the ground with a thud, Levi steady and composed as ever, while Kat stumbled slightly in his grip. Levi didn't waste a second.

"You need to be more focused," Levi growled, his voice sharp and cutting through the silence. "Focus. It wouldn't take a second for you to become a titan's food."

The squad fell silent. Whenever Levi raised his voice, it sent chills down everyone's spine. Armin, Eren, Jean, and the others stood frozen in place, eyes wide as they absorbed the intensity of the moment.

Kat, however, wasn't focused on Levi's words. Her eyes widened as she stared straight into Levi's eyes. The usual coldness, the distrust she had been seeing in his gaze for weeks—it wasn't there. She could see it, plain as day—behind the harsh tone, behind the biting words. His eyes told a different story.

Heichou... she thought, her heart beating faster. Those eyes... She felt the lump in her throat growing. He trusts me. He never doubted me in the first place.

Levi's brows furrowed, seeing Kat's blank stare fixed on him. "Stop staring," he snapped, his voice gruff. "Let's move. We've already lost enough time."

He began to walk away, his steps quick and purposeful, but just few steps ahead, they heard a small whimper.

Almost like a whisper, Kat's voice rang out, soft but filled with emotion. "Heichou....... A-ri-ga-to," she stammered, her eyes brimming with tears as they fell to the ground.

Levi paused in his tracks for a second. His back to her, he stood still. The silence stretched out, but without turning, he continued walking, his expression unreadable.

The squad exchanged confused looks. Eren blinked, trying to make sense of what just happened. Levi heichou just yelled at her, and... senpai says thank you? His brows furrowed. I don't get it...

Mikasa, on the other hand, noticed the tension in Levi's stance. It wasn't just a yell. There's something more to this... she thought, her eyes narrowing as she followed Levi's lead.

Jean scratched the back of his head, his mind racing with thoughts. He could sense something shifting, but like the others, he wasn't sure what. Maybe Levi isn't as cold-hearted toward her as he wants us to believe...
