Erwin's voice cut through the tense atmosphere. "There are several things that raise suspicion, Kat," he continued. "The female titan, we believe, is one of our own. There are reports of her using ODM gear, and we have to consider that she may have had accomplices within the Scouts." His sharp gaze fell on Kat. "You were missing during the colossal titan's attack. Your report from that day mentions only killing a single titan and saving a child, but there's an unexplained gap in your whereabouts for the rest of that battle."
Kat clenched her fists, her heart pounding. She could feel the weight of the accusations bearing down on her. Across the room, Levi's expression darkened as he processed Erwin's words. He remembered the day in question, the colossal titan's devastating appearance. He had called for Kat, but she hadn't responded. At the time, he assumed it was due to the chaos, but now, doubt crept in.
"To think of it..." Levi's eyes narrowed. "She didn't give any explanation for where she was during the attack." His mind raced.
Could she have been close to the colossal titan when it reverted to its human form? Was the blast the reason why she couldn't hear me later?
"Sheesh!" Levi grunted, anger bubbling up inside him. Without hesitation, he unsheathed his blade, leaping forward with lightning speed. The sharp edge of the blade pressed against Kat's neck, and his furious eyes bore into her.
"Who was it?" Levi demanded, his voice filled with venom.
Kat's eyes widened in shock, her breath catching in her throat. "Huh?" she stammered.
"Who was it this morning?" Levi growled, his patience thin. "The so-called relative who came to meet you? Was it the titan shifter?"
Kat's pulse quickened. She could see the pain behind his anger, the deep betrayal in his eyes. Does he really think I'm...?
"I don't know what you're talking about," she whispered, shaking her head, her voice barely holding steady.
Levi's grip on his blade tightened. "Don't lie to me. You hesitated to press the power pack button today, almost giving the female titan enough time to break through. You're hiding something, Kat. I can see it."
Behind his hard, unrelenting facade, Kat could sense Levi was falling apart inside. Was she... a traitor? The thought pierced his heart. She denied it all, explaining her hesitation as nothing more than a moment of fear, and claimed the man who had visited her was just someone from the marketplace who recognized her.
Kat internally screamed, wanting to tell Levi the truth about Kenny, but here in the court, she couldn't. If she mentioned Kenny's name without solid proof, it would alert him, and any chance of gathering evidence against him would be gone. I'll tell Levi later, once we're alone, ... but not now.
Levi's eyes burned with frustration. He could read her well enough to know she was lying, and it ate away at him. "Tch," he grunted in irritation, but before he could push further, Erwin interjected.
