I glance at the clock and feel a jolt of panic. *I'm going to be late for work.*

"It was nice to see you, Conor," I say, forcing a smile despite the whirlwind of emotions inside me. "But I really have to go or I'll be late."

His expression shifts, a mix of understanding and disappointment. I wish I could stay, wish we could just forget everything for a moment, but I know I need to leave. I can't let this turn into another extended conversation that only deepens my confusion.

Before I can turn away, he steps closer and wraps his arms around me in a tight hug. The warmth of him envelops me, and for a moment, I allow myself to lean into it, taking in the familiar scent that sends my heart racing.

"Take care, okay?" he whispers, and I nod, feeling a pang of sadness at the thought of walking away.

"Really, it was great to see you," I say, pulling back slightly but still caught in his embrace. His eyes search mine, and I can feel the weight of unspoken words lingering between us.

"Don't be a stranger," he adds, and I manage a small smile as I step away.

"Ok!" I call out as I back away, trying to keep my voice light despite the turmoil inside. Each step away from him feels heavier, and anxiety bubbles just beneath the surface. I take a deep breath as I walk, reminding myself to focus on the day ahead, even as I leave a piece of myself behind.
