"You tried to force yourself onto me, Conor!" I shout, my voice shaking with anger and disbelief. He cuts me off, his face contorting in frustration."That's not true! I apologized right after and asked for another chance. You tossed me away like a dog!" His voice is raised, the desperation behind his words twisting the knife deeper. "I loved you, and then you humiliated me by pushing me away!"
Confusion washes over me, clouding my mind. My heart races as I grapple with his accusations. Did I push him away too harshly? Was I wrong to assert myself? Had I misread all the signals, and did he really love me? Am I going crazy, spiraling into doubt?
"Well—well, after all this, you immediately got married, so you can't claim it was love!" I counter, trying to reclaim my footing.
"Oh yes, it was love!" He steps closer, his expression shifting from defensiveness to something more desperate. "But not anymore, because now I'm with Anne!"
"You've been with her this whole time, still! You just lied to me to get in my pants, didn't you?" I exclaim, my voice rising in indignation. The realization of his betrayal ignites a fire in me.
"That's not true!" he shouts, the volume of his denial echoing in the air.
"Oh yes, it is true and you just cheated on her with her bridesmaids!" I shout again, the weight of the truth hanging heavily between us.
"What?" comes a shocked voice from behind me.
I spin around, my heart sinking as I see Anne standing there, her eyes wide with disbelief, flanked by Shelly and James.
