As Shelly continued to chat with James, my phone buzzed with an incoming call from Ethan. My heart skipped a beat as I glanced at the screen. "Oh my gosh, it's Ethan!" I exclaimed, feeling a wave of excitement wash over me.
"Answer it!" Shelly urged, her voice filled with encouragement.
"Have fun!" she added, and I could hear James chiming in with a teasing, "Behave!"
"I will!" I promised, grinning as I swiped to answer. "Hey!"
"Hey! I just wanted to let you know I made it home safe," he said, his voice warm and familiar, putting me at ease instantly.
"Good! I'm glad to hear that," I replied, unable to hide my smile. "Tonight was so amazing. Thank you for everything!"
"I'm really glad you had a good time. I had a great time too," he said, a hint of laughter in his voice. "You know, I almost forgot how fun it is to have real conversations with someone instead of just talking to my plants."
I chuckled at his joke, the sound of his laughter making my heart flutter. "Your plants must be feeling neglected then!"
"Definitely! But you made up for it tonight," he said, his tone playful. "I can't wait to see you again. Let's make it happen soon."
"I'd love that," I replied, feeling a warm glow spread through me. "We have to plan something fun."
"I'll figure it out," Ethan said. "But for now, get some rest, okay? I'll text you tomorrow."
"Alright! Goodnight, Ethan," I said, my heart racing with anticipation for what was to come.
"Goodnight, Lily," he replied, and I could almost hear the smile in his voice before he hung up.
As I ended the call, I turned back to Shelly and James, my heart still soaring from the conversation. "He made it home safe!" I said, grinning from ear to ear.
"That's awesome!" Shelly exclaimed, and James nodded, looking pleased. "I knew he would. You two are a perfect match."
"I hope so!" I replied, my heart still fluttering from our interactions. The night had turned out to be everything I had dreamed of and more.
