As I made my way to the library, my heart raced with anticipation. I needed to see Ethan, to share my thoughts after the whirlwind of emotions I had been feeling. But as I approached the entrance, my steps slowed, and I caught sight of him standing outside, laughing with a woman.
She was striking—tall, with beautiful long legs and silky black hair that cascaded down her back. They appeared so comfortable together, their laughter ringing out like a melody, and I felt an unexpected pang of insecurity twist in my stomach. I watched from a distance, my heart sinking as they hugged longingly before she turned to leave. The moment felt intimate, and I couldn't help but wonder what their relationship was like.
When Ethan finally stepped inside, he spotted me and his face lit up. "Hey!" he exclaimed, coming over to wrap his arms around me. His kiss was warm, a welcome contrast to the cold air outside, but my curiosity nagged at me.
"Who was that girl you were talking to?" I asked, my voice a mix of casualness and underlying tension.
"Just a friend," he replied, brushing off my question with a nonchalant shrug. "Nothing more."
His words stung a little, despite his reassuring tone. I wanted to believe him, but doubt crept in, gnawing at my thoughts. He pulled me closer, his arms tightening around me in an effort to ease my worry. "Really, Lily, there's nothing going on," he said softly, his breath warm against my ear.
But no matter how much he tried to comfort me, I couldn't shake the unease that lingered. I spent the entire night replaying the scene in my mind, unable to dispel the image of him laughing with her. The uncertainty of their connection gnawed at me, leaving me restless and on edge, even as I lay in bed, wishing for the sweet solace of sleep.
