26. The fear

Two days later...

Even before he entered the room, a mysterious anxiety gripped his stomach.

Something was clearly wrong.

He opened the door and slowly walked inside, not wanting to wake Fourth, who should have been sleeping soundly at this hour. However, as soon as he crossed the threshold, his heart stopped for a moment. The silence in the room was not natural. Usually at this time of night you could at least hear someone snoring and even the howling of wolves could be heard outside the tunnel, which just happened to lead outside their window to the hidden forest of the Little People. The only sound was the too loud and as if insistent ticking of the clock on the wall and something else. As if someone's groan of pain and despair. Gemini tightened his fingers around the small dagger he had "forgotten" to give up after the training, to which he had gone alone, leaving Fourth under the watchful care of Poon and Pahn.

Fourth stood in front of him in the bathroom doorway, but he didn't look normal. He was wearing a too-long shirt with blue and white stripes, his arms, legs, and worse, the floor were stained with blood and some other liquid that Gem couldn't identify.

Their eyes met. Suddenly Fourth cried out in pain and before Gemini could run up, he fell to the floor.

“FOURTH?! What's going on?! Did someone attack you?! Where's Pahn and Poon?! AI SHIA FOURTH!!!” Gemini screamed at the top of his lungs, crouching down next to his roommate and grabbing his hand.

“S-sorry...” Fourth stammered quietly in response.  “It hurts...”

Gemini, he didn't need to think too long. He took his phone out of the pocket of his tight, light-colored jeans and called Dr. WanDee, but to his only slight surprise, Yoryak answered.

“Nong Gemini, is something wrong that you're calling my boyfriend at such a late hour? You know that this is the time that...”

Gemini didn't let him finish.

“ Shut up. It's important. It's Fourth... Something bad is happening to Fourth. Do you have Dr. WanDee around?”

“I'm putting him on the phone now,” Yoryak immediately realized that this was no joke and after a moment he handed the phone to his partner.

“Gemini? What's going on? It's quite late”.

“It's Fourth. He's bleeding terribly. There's blood literally everywhere”.

“Bleeding?  Gemini, is Fourth hurt?”

“No, I don't think so. Besides, I don't know! It's hard to say! He's bleeding... bleeding from...” Gemini couldn't say it, he didn't even know what exactly he should say, instead he just shouted. “What should I do?!”

“Calm down, nong Gemini, take a deep breath. Don't panic, everything will be fine. Tell me, is Fourth conscious?”

“Yes, but he's crying and groaning all the time. I think he's in a lot of pain. Doctor, help us!”

[“I didn't know it will be this painful”, Fourth said and another wave of pain racked his body, so intense that Fourth felt like an eternity of torture in hell would hurt less than this. He arched his body as if that would help. The veins in his body became more visible, bulging.]

“Listen to me carefully, Gemini. You've already learned teleportation, right?”

“Yes! But P'Off forbade us from using it, we don't have the runes yet”.

[Every muscle in his body was tensed to the limit. Fourth thought he couldn't take it much longer.

“KILL ME NORAWIT!!! I DEMAND YOU TO KILL ME! I can't do this anymore! I SAID: KILL ME!!! YOU ALWAYS WANTED IT, DIDN'T YOU?! KILL ME! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!” Fourth yelled with pain at Gemini, who tried to listen to P'WanDee.]

“It doesn't matter, this is an exceptional situation, you won't be punished for this. I'll talk to the boss myself. Now don't waste time. Teleport straight to the doctor's office, I'll be there in a moment”.

[Before Norawit finished his talk with dr WanDee, Nattawat ran out of energy and became very weak. His acts scared poor Gemini to death.]

Gemini ended the call, locked the phone, slipped it into the pocket of his jeans, and then with some difficulty grabbed Fourth in his arms like a bride being carried by her groom over the threshold of a house and spun around with him, focusing on the destination of their journey.

Doctor WanDee was already there and was just buttoning the last buttons of his shirt. Gemini prefered to not think about what did he interrupt.

“Put him on the couch, I'll take care of him in a moment,” Doctor WanDee ordered in his typical professional and calm tone.  Gemini did as he was told, but he didn't let go of Fourth's hand even for a moment, even though it was covered in blood.

The doctor began to examine his patient.

“When did you notice the bleeding?” The doctor asked Fourth, pressing his hands against the boy's stomach.

Fourth didn't answer. He turned his head to the side, as if he was ashamed to look both the doctor and Gemini in the eye. The doctor took the hint.

“Nong Gemini, could you leave us alone? I need to examine the patient and ask a few questions”. 

“Of course, doctor. Just tell me if Fourth is okay?”

“I don't know yet. I'll call you when I know more”.

The resigned and disconsolate young Knights of Light Academy adept left the room with his head hanging. Already in the corridor he leaned his back against the cold wall and sent short messages to Dunk and Phuwin.

He was never this scared.

«What did I do wrong? Why this happened? Wasn't I good enough for him? Didn't I take proper care of him and our baby? What happened? Why there was so much blood? Is he going to be ok? What if I lose him?! No, please, not the same story again! No! Oh Great Angels! Please, save him! I'll do anything you want me to do but please, save him! Save both of them! What's happening?! Did someone attack Fourth? Who else knows about this? It wasn't my brother, Dunk or was he?

No, Dunk has no point of hurting Fourth, he likes him, he wouldn't hurt him.

Then who?

Prim? I know she had crash on Fourth some time ago and that's why I was mad at him, but she told me that she was only joking and that actually she has girlfriend... But what if Fourth was right? What if she was jealous of us? She got hurt, she herself maybe didn't want to hurt us, but now, when she may carry demon's child, she could be dangerous, right? Maybe I should trust Fourth more? What if it was her?

But she is my best friend, she wouldn't do that. Besides, she already told us, that she will meet doctor Jimmy and they will talk about her future and her possibilities. She told us that there's hope that the kiddo will be ordinary, with magical powers, but still normal, healthy and she will make sure that it won't grow up into a demon, but I don't believe that. I didn't wanted to tell her to not make her suffer more, but I don't think it's possible. It's still demon's blood.

Oh I wish I was listening to what P'Tay was telling us about demons! I don't remember much! And I'm sure he was talking about it!

If not Dunk and Prim then who else knows?

Oh! Of course! This bitch Tsunoda! Fuck him! This shitty shorty! If it was you, you damn Tsunoda, I'll kill you with my own bare hands!

I wasn't there only for few hours because I still have to go to classes and this happened! I will never leave Fourth alone again! Never! It's too dangerous. Someone is clearly trying to kill my boy! I won't let them! I will protect him! No matter what, I'll protect my boy! He is mine and nobody else has any rights to him! He belongs to me!»

Norawit thought as he paced nervously back and forth in the hallway. An anxious little voice in his head reminded him that officially, according to many other unwitting students of the Knights of Light Academy, he and Fourth were still enemies and should at least keep up appearances until it could no longer be hidden.
