1. I hate him

Destiny is a strange thing, you can never be sure what will happen to you the next day or what people it will put in your path.  Some of them will be your friends forever, others will remain your enemies forever, and still others may become a lesson for you that you need so much, even though you are not aware of it.

Bangkok, 2023, Knights of Light Institute, morning.

“Get out of that closet!  Suzie, I won't tell you again, get out of there, this is not the place for you, Suzie!”

It certainly wasn't something Gemini expected to hear first thing in the morning.

No sooner had he entered the locker room than he saw his friend, NuNew, standing in front of his assigned metal locker decorated with rainbows and flowers, glaring menacingly at its open door.

Who was Suzie?

Gemini raised his eyebrows when a moment later, quite obediently, a small, half-hairy, half-covered with feathers, animal with gold-shining fur and feathers of various colors, emerged from the inside, resembling a slightly overgrown cat from behind.

“P'NuNew, is that... is that a LION?!” Gemini exclaimed with comic horror.

“Lion?  My dear friend, this is not a lion, this is a griffin, look at its paws, does it remind you of a lion's paws?  And his face?  Do lions have beaks similar to eagles?”

Gemini looked at the animal.  In fact, it was not the front paws typical of big cats, but rather legs resembling those of eagles, and instead of the cute but fierce face of young lions, it had the head of a bird of prey.

Gemini had heard about griffins, but even in their magical world they were quite rare.  He eyed his friend suspiciously as he put his backpack in his own locker, which was a few doors down on the opposite side.

“P'NuNew, where did you get it?”

“Eeeee... Well.... How to say this...?  I found it? Someone had abandoned it. Isn't she the cutest?!”

NuNew's voice sounded uncertain and the twenty-three-year-old did not look Gemini in the eye.  He clearly didn't want to reveal the origin of this little monster, which took advantage of the moment of freedom to escape from its owner and approached Gemini to start pinching his clothes with its beak.

That day, Gemini was dressed in a loose, white short-sleeved T-shirt, gray knee-length shorts and comfortable, sports, white shoes.  He just quickly combed his hair into a ponytail on the top of his head and sprayed a small dose of his favorite perfume around his neck.  The griffon took an immediate liking to Gem, and when NuNew tried to pull the animal away from his friend by pulling on the rainbow leash attached to its solid black collar, the animal resisted and tried to wedge its head between Gem's knees.

“Do you see her, what a little beast she is?  I am her master and she doesn't listen to me at all!  Suzie, let's go!  Boss Off is waiting for us!”

Gemini squinted, trying to remember what Boss Off, the head of their Knights of Light unit, had told them the previous day, but that meeting had completely faded from his memory.  All he remembered was watching sparrows hopping on the window sill outside.  The previous day had been extremely boring, and its boredom was made worse by the fact that the other Knights of Light candidates, including Kang, Moo, Java, Ohm Thiphakorn, Ford Allan(Arun) they were sent to a special training camp, to which Gemini was not allowed due to his backlog in the non-magical world.

Gemini wasn't the only one who had to stay at the Institute.

He was also accompanied during classes by his other friends, who had also made some progress in 'the other world', as they sometimes called the world of the Non-Magical.
