(Micah)
I left Arlo moments later, telling him that I needed to get something to eat and see what Landon was up to.
I needed to get away, even if just for a moment, to clear my head.
My stomach growled, reminding me I hadn't eaten much today, so I headed to the kitchen. Maybe a snack would help calm my nerves and take my mind off everything.
As soon as I stepped inside the kitchen, I saw my parents there talking to Cory, their expressions turned serious when they saw me. My heart sank. I knew that look, this wasn't going to be a casual chat.
“Micah, we need to talk.” Mom started, her voice low and concerned,
I sighed, already feeling the weight of whatever they were about to say pressing down on me.
“What is it?” I asked. Dad stepped forward with his arms crossed.
“Jacob told us what happened. About the talk you two had. He said you were… harsh.” I froze, my stomach twisting into knots. Jacob. Of course, he would go running to them. I crossed my arms, defensive.
“So?” I replied, unable to hide my frustration.
“You were wrong, Micah,” Mom said gently.
“You can’t talk to him like that. He’s the Alpha King, and he’s done so much for us already. You know that. You should apologize.” I blinked at her, feeling the anger flare up inside me.
“Apologize? For what? For telling the truth.” I repeated, incredulous.
“He made us immortal, he moved us here to live as one pack so that we could all be together.” Dad cut in, his tone firm.
“We owe him everything. You need to show him respect.” I felt my pulse quicken, the frustration bubbling over.
“This isn’t about owing him! You don’t care about how I feel, do you?” I shouted, my voice rising but I didn't care.
“You never do!” They stared at me, taken aback by my outburst, but I wasn’t done. The floodgates had opened, and I couldn’t stop now.
“Ever since I came back from that trip with Landon, I haven’t had a single moment of peace! Every time I turn around, someone’s telling me what to do and how to act. Logan’s in love with me, and I’m stuck trying to figure out how not to hurt Chandra, who’s his mate, by the way. And Jacob? He’s mad at me because he thinks Landon doesn’t want to marry me. He thinks Landon just panicked and proposed because he didn’t know what else to do!” I could feel my voice shaking and my hands trembling with the force of my frustration.
They exchanged glances, but neither of them spoke. They didn’t get it. They never did.
“And where were you?” I continued, my voice dropping to a low, dangerous tone.
“Where were you when Landon marked me without my consent? You pushed me to him! You told me to stay with him, to be with my abuser! So don’t stand there and tell me I need to apologize to Jacob. You weren’t there when I needed you. None of you were.” Mom opened her mouth to speak, but I cut her off.
“Stay out of my business,” I snapped, my voice harsh.
“You don’t care about what I’m going through. You never have.” I turned on my heel, my heart pounding in my chest as I stormed toward the door.
“I’m going for a walk,” I threw over my shoulder, not waiting for a response.
As I stepped outside, the cool air hit my face, but it did nothing to soothe the anger raging inside me.
I didn’t know where I was going, but I didn’t care.
Anywhere was better than being around them right now.
