(Landon)
As soon as the familiar feeling of teleportation faded, I found myself back at the pack house with Jacob, feeling dazed and a little disoriented.
My heart raced, though not from the journey. There was something in the air, something that felt urgent.
I barely had time to get my bearings before I caught the fading scent of Dr. Carlyle’s, mingled with something else that was both familiar and new.
My instincts kicked in, and I knew I needed to find Micah.
He’d been on my mind constantly, especially with our baby’s due date coming up next week. But the thought that he’d already given birth hadn’t even crossed my mind.
‘Micah, where are you?’ I asked, wanting nothing more than to make sure he was alright.
‘At the medical wing, hurry, Landon. I need you.’ He replied. I took off, my feet pounding against the floors as I raced down the hall, my heart in my throat.
The closer I got, the stronger I could feel it—a strange, beautiful energy radiating from somewhere close.
A mix of excitement and fear tightened my chest, but I tried my best to ignore it.
I burst into Dr. Carlyle’s room, and there he was. Micah, lying on the bed, looking exhausted but beautiful, holding a tiny bundle wrapped snugly in his arms.
Relief flooded through me, overwhelming every other emotion. He was okay. They were okay. I stumbled forward, my vision blurring as tears filled my eyes.
“Micah…” My voice cracked as I dropped to my knees beside him, wrapping my arms around him as gently as I could. I held him close, my hand trembling as I cupped his face.
“I didn’t know… I didn’t know you’d give birth so soon. You weren’t due for another week, and I—Goddess, I should’ve been here.” Micah smiled softly, brushing a hand over my cheek.
“It’s okay, Landon. It happened fast, but everything was fine. Christian is fine.” He leaned in, kissing my forehead, his touch warm and soothing.
“I knew you’d be here as soon as you could. You didn’t miss a thing.” I shook my head, struggling to accept his reassurance.
“But I should’ve been here, Micah. I promised you… I promised I’d be by your side.” I felt guilty for leaving when he needed me the most.
I wanted so badly to be everything for him, to keep him safe and make sure he never had to go through something like this alone. And now, I’d missed the birth of our son.
Micah held me tighter, his fingers tracing small circles on my back.
“Landon, stop. You’re here now, and that’s what matters. You’re right where you need to be.” I let out a shuddering breath, resting my forehead against his.
I could feel my tears slipping down my cheeks, but I didn’t care.
I held him, just taking in the moment, feeling his steady heartbeat against mine. It grounded me and anchored me in a way that nothing else could.
My son. Christian.
My heart swelled as Micah carefully placed him in my arms, and I gazed down at him, overwhelmed by a love so fierce it nearly brought me to my knees.
Christian’s tiny fingers curled around my thumb, and I couldn’t stop the tears from falling.
He was perfect—his soft skin, his little nose, the way he blinked up at me with bright, curious eyes. I never knew it was possible to feel so much all at once.
Micah reached over, resting a hand on my shoulder.
“See? He waited for you, Landon. He knew his dad would be here.” I looked up at him, as emotions overcame me once more.
“Thank you, Micah. Thank you to him. For everything.” Micah just smiled, leaning his head against mine as we both looked down at our son.
I knew, at that moment, I would protect them forever.
I’d spend the rest of my life making sure they both knew just how much they meant to me.
