(Landon)
As I held Micah close, feeling the tension gradually ease from his body, I started to worry.
The emotions that had crashed over me earlier stayed with me like a storm cloud. Micah was overwhelmed, and I needed to make sure he and our baby were okay.
Quietly, I reached out with my mind, tapping into the link I had with Dr. Carlyle.
Micah wouldn't like it if I told my doctor to come, so it had to be his pack doctor of no one else.
'Dr. Carlyle, I need you to come check on Micah. He had a breakdown, and I want to make sure both he and the baby are okay.' Moments later, Dr. Carlyle replied.
'I’ll be there as soon as I can. Stay calm, Landon.' I turned my attention back to Micah, who seemed to be drifting deeper into sleep.
Just then, he stirred, his brow furrowing. I watched as his eyes fluttered open, and he glared at me, suddenly alert.
“Why are you still here? Don't you have work to do?” he snapped, pulling away slightly.
“I was just making sure you’re okay. You were upset.” I said as I raised my hands defensively.
“I’m not a child, Landon! I can take care of myself!” His voice was sharp, and it stung. I felt my heart drop as he shifted away from me, wrapping the blankets tighter around his body.
“Micah, please. I—” I started to say.
“Just stop! I don’t need you coddling me. I can handle this!” His voice cracked, and I saw the tears pooling in his eyes again. My heart ached for him.
“Micah, I’m not trying to coddle you. I just want to help,” I said softly, feeling frustrated.
“I can’t help it if I worry about you.” At that moment, Dr. Carlyle burst through the door, a look of concern on his face.
“What’s going on?” he asked, his gaze darting between us.
Micah buried his face in the pillows, his body shaking with sobs.
“I don’t want to talk about it!” He cried, his voice muffled.
Dr. Carlyle moved quickly, kneeling by Micah’s side.
“Micah, I need you to look at me. Can you do that for me?” Slowly, Micah turned his head, his eyes wide with fear and pain.
“Okay,” Dr. Carlyle said gently.
“I’m going to give you something to help you calm down. It won’t hurt the baby, I promise.” He prepared a small syringe, and I felt a knot of anxiety in my stomach.
“Micah, you’re safe. Just breathe,” I urged, keeping my voice low and steady.
Micah nodded, but I could see the fear in his eyes. As Dr. Carlyle administered the injection, Micah flinched, but soon his body relaxed slightly.
Just then, Arlo burst into the room, his expression a mix of alarm and concern.
“What happened? I felt everything,” he said, his eyes darting to Micah.
“I’m okay,” Micah mumbled, but the tremor in his voice betrayed him.
“Arlo, I’m glad you’re here,” I said, my voice tinged with relief.
“He’s just feeling overwhelmed. I don’t know how to help him.” I felt like I had failed him. Now, here I was turning to Arlo for help.
“I’ll talk to him,” Arlo said firmly, stepping closer to the bed. He gestured for Dr. Carlyle and me to leave, which we did.
But, I stayed close and heard everything that they were talking about which made my blood boil.
“Micah, can you tell me what’s going on?” Arlo asked.
“It’s… it’s nothing. Just a lot of emotions.”
“Micah,” Arlo urged, his tone softening.
“You can’t keep brushing this off. You need to talk about it.” I had to agree with Arlo there.
“I don’t know how,” Micah confessed, his voice trembling again.
“Logan told me he has feelings for me, and I… I overreacted. I don’t know how to tell Landon, because I’m scared it’ll cause problems. I don’t want to hurt anyone.” I stormed back into the room when I heard that.
Their voices aren't hushed, seems as if they forgot about our abilities.
“Logan? He told you that?” I asked, feeling the anger boil inside me.
“Yeah,” Micah replied, biting his lip, clearly distressed.
“And I didn’t know how to tell you. I had this thought in my head that you would lose control and hurt me.” The guilt washed over me like ice water.
“Micah, I would never want you to feel that way. I hate that you were dealing with this alone.” I moved closer, wrapping my arms around him, holding him tight as if I could shield him from everything that hurt.
“I’m so sorry,” I murmured against his hair.
“I promise, I’m never going to hurt you again.” Micah took a shaky breath, his body trembling in my arms.
“I just… I didn’t want you to get angry. I know how you can be when it comes to Logan.” I pulled back slightly to look him in the eye.
“I’ll be watching him from now on. You know I can’t let him near you without my eyes on him.” That made Micah giggle softly, his tension easing a little.
“You’re going to be like a hawk, aren’t you?” He asked.
“Absolutely,” I replied, a small smile breaking through the storm of emotions.
“He won’t stand a chance if he tries anything.” And I meant it.
“Landon, you can’t just stalk him,” he teased, his eyes sparkling with mischief. The same look he would give whenever he wanted to pull one of his pranks.
“Watch me,” I said, unable to hide my grin. The sight of him smiling made my heart swell, even if just for a moment.
“Just promise me you won’t fight him, okay?” Micah asked, his tone growing serious again.
I sighed, running my fingers through my hair.
“I can’t promise that, but I will try. For you.” Micah nodded, his expression softening as he leaned into me, and I held him close.
“Just remember, you can talk to me about anything, okay?” I whispered into his hair, feeling the warmth of his body against mine.
“You’re not alone in this. You never have to face anything without me.” He nodded again, and as he moved into my embrace, I felt hopeful.
Micah was going to be okay, I'll make sure of it.
