Under my care

(Landon)

I held Micah in my arms as I walked toward Dr. Carlyle's office, trying to keep my nerves in check.

The whole time, I’d kept glancing at him, wondering if I was doing enough, worrying about what Dr. Carlyle might say.

Micah was still unconscious, his face pale, and I hated seeing him like this. He should be glowing with excitement, not worn down with worry.

When we reached the waiting room, I wrapped my arm around him, giving him as much comfort as I could.

Moments later, Dr. Carlyle stepped into the room with a warm smile.

He gestured for us to follow him into the exam room, and I lay Micah on the exam table, brushing a kiss over his forehead.

“Alright, let’s take a look at Micah and the baby,” Dr. Carlyle said, his voice calm and reassuring as he began the exam.

I watched closely, holding Micah’s hand the whole time, silently praying everything would be okay.

After a few minutes, Dr. Carlyle turned to me, his expression soft.

“Well, I have good news. Both Micah and the baby are doing just fine. He's about three months along, and everything looks healthy.” I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding, relief flooding through me.

I glanced at Micah, seeing that he was slowly regaining consciousness, and kissed him when he finally opened his eyes.

“However, I do want Micah to take it easy. I’m recommending bed rest for at least a week. No stress, no strain. He needs to rest as much as possible. I’ll check on him again soon to make sure everything’s progressing smoothly.” Micah’s hand tightened in mine, and he looked up at me with worry in his eyes. I squeezed his hand gently.

“You hear that, babe? Just bed rest. I’ll make sure of it.” Dr. Carlyle smiled at us, clearly picking up on my relief.

“Landon, it’s going to be important that you help keep Micah stress-free. Pregnancy can be tough, and for now, we need to prioritize Micah’s health and the baby’s well-being.” I nodded firmly.

“You got it, Doc. I’ll take care of him.” I looked back at Micah, who was biting his lip while looking around.

As Dr. Carlyle wrapped up his instructions and gave Micah the medications that he needed, I helped Micah back to his feet, supporting him as we made our way outside.

“Alright, from now on, you’re under strict orders to take it easy,” I said, smiling a little.

“Doctor’s orders and I’ll be enforcing them.” He chuckled softly, leaning back against me with a sigh.

“You’ll be a terrible enforcer. You’re too soft on me,” he teased, but I could see the gratitude in his eyes, and I knew he appreciated that I was here with him through this.

“Just wait,” I said, my tone playful but my gaze serious.

“I’m not letting you lift a finger until Dr. Carlyle gives you the all-clear. You and our baby deserve that.” Micah reached over and took my hand, squeezing it gently as he looked at me with a soft smile.

“Thank you, Landon. For everything.” I brought his hand to my lips, kissing his knuckles just like I had done all the time.

“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be, Micah. You’re my everything, and I’ll take care of you always.” I glanced over at him, watching the way he leaned into me with his eyes closed, looking exhausted but peaceful.

“Hey, love,” I started softly, not wanting to disturb him too much,

“I need to ask you something. Why did you faint in the first place? You were so pale, and it scared the hell out of me.” He hesitated, his eyes opening before he looked down, avoiding my gaze.

I could tell he was choosing his words carefully, his brow furrowing just slightly.

“It’s just… the stress from everything going on lately,” He said, his voice a bit quiet.

“I guess it just caught up to me.” He trailed off, and I had a feeling he wasn’t telling me everything, but I didn’t press him. If he wasn’t ready to share, I’d wait until he was.

“Well, whatever it is, we’ll work through it together, alright? For now, I just want to make sure you’re comfortable.” I paused, giving him a playful grin.

I knew that it probably had to do with Logan and Jacob, but if he wanted to keep things from me, I would have to wait until he was ready to tell me what happened between them aside from what I already knew.

“So, what can I get you? Anything you’d like to eat? Or maybe a gift to help you feel better?” Micah’s eyes lit up with a mischievous spark, and he broke into a grin.

“Well… you could always get Marcus and have him bring me some of his brownies,” he suggested, laughter bubbling up in his throat. I raised an eyebrow at him, knowing full well what he meant by “brownies.”

He caught the look on my face and burst out laughing.

“Alright, alright. I get it. No special brownies,” He said, still grinning.

“I didn’t think you’d go for that anyway.” At least he was aware.

“Glad you understand,” I chuckled, shaking my head.

“But seriously, what do you need, Micah?” He thought for a moment, his expression softening as he looked at me.

“Honestly? I just need you to be here with me. That’s all I need. Knowing you’re by my side makes me feel a whole lot better.” He sighed, his hand finding mine again, fingers intertwining.

“And I’ve been craving some soup as well, the one with the potatoes and sausage.” I smiled, squeezing his hand.

“Consider it done. I'll get you back to our room, and I’ll make sure you’ve got everything you need. And don’t worry about a thing, I’ll be with you every step of the way.” Micah’s eyes softened, and I  leaned over, pressing a gentle kiss to his cheek.

“Thank you, Landon. I mean it. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” I smiled when he said that.

“You’ll never have to find out, love. I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere.” I replied, meaning everything I said.
