(Landon)
I had just come back from watching some of the younger wolves train when a wave of emotions crashed over me, so strong that I doubled over, clutching my stomach.
It was like a tidal wave of fear and despair, and it pulled me under. I felt my heart race, the instinctual urge to protect kicking in.
“Micah!” I called out, urgency moving me forward.
My feet moved almost of their own accord as I sprinted toward our room. Something was wrong. I could feel it in my bones.
I burst through the door, and my heart sank at the sight before me.
Micah was hunched over the toilet, heaving violently, tears streaming down his face.
My stomach twisted at the sight; I rushed to his side, kneeling beside him.
“Micah!” I said, my voice filled with concern.
“What happened? Are you okay?” He looked up at me, his eyes red and puffy.
“I… I’m fine,” he gasped between sobs, but the tremble in his voice told a different story. He was anything but fine.
I rubbed his back gently, trying to soothe him as he took shaky breaths.
“This doesn’t look fine, Micah. You’re crying and—” I glanced at the toilet, feeling my heart ache for him.
“What’s going on?” I asked, wanting to find out how I could help him.
“It’s nothing for you to worry about,” he murmured, but I could see the pain in his eyes.
“Not worry about?” I replied, feeling frustrated that he would say that.
“You’re upset! You can’t just brush this off.” He swallowed hard, resting his forehead against the cool porcelain.
“I just… it’s overwhelming, okay? Everything’s happening so fast, and I don’t know how to handle it.” His voice cracked, and I felt so helpless right now.
“Talk to me,” I urged, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“Please. I can’t help you if you don’t let me in.” He took a shaky breath, his body trembling under my touch.
Micah hesitated, his eyes darting away from mine as if he were searching for the right words.
The silence stretched between us, thick with unspoken fears. I could see the internal battle he was fighting, wanting to confide in me but holding back.
“Micah, please,” I urged gently.
“I can’t help you if you keep brushing this off.” He bit his lip, clearly struggling.
“It’s just... it’s a lot to take in. I don’t want to burden you with it.” He replied while looking down.
“Burden me? You’re my mate,” I said.
“We’re in this together. I want to help you, but I can’t do that if you shut me out.” He sighed, frustration showing in his eyes.
“I just… I think I need to sleep for days. Everything feels too much right now.” I shook my head, knowing that he was only making excuses.
“Okay,” I replied, trying to be supportive, though I felt disappointed that he was avoiding me.
“Let’s get you cleaned up, then. A shower will help.” He nodded slowly, pushing himself away from the toilet with some effort.
I helped him to his feet, keeping my arm around him for support as he made his way to the bath.
My heart ached for him; I wanted to take away his pain. But I knew that all I could do was be there, waiting for him to come to me when he was ready.
After a while, the water shut off, and we stepped out of the shower.
The shadows under his eyes remained, but there was a hint of relief in his expression. He then brushed his teeth as he kept on avoiding my eyes.
“Feeling any better?” I asked softly as we stepped back into the room. I helped him get dressed into one of his pajamas.
“A little,” he admitted, though I could tell it was a half-truth.
“Thanks for helping me.” He said.
“Always,” I replied, giving him a small smile.
“Now, let’s get you to bed.” He followed me to the bed, and I helped him settle in, adjusting the blankets around him. Micah curled up on his side, facing me, and I could see the tension slowly easing from his body.
I climbed in beside him, wrapping my arms around him protectively.
“You’re safe here, Micah,” I whispered, feeling his body relax against mine.
“Whenever you’re ready to talk, I’ll be here.” He let out a soft breath, his eyes fluttering closed.
“I know,” he murmured, the weight of exhaustion pulling him under. Within moments, his breathing evened out, and I felt the warmth of his presence seep into me.
As I lay there, watching him sleep, I vowed to myself that I wouldn’t give up on him.
We would face whatever was bothering him together, and I would do everything in my power to help him find peace.
