When I woke up, Micah wasn't next to me like I had expected. But, I didn't panic because I could just scent him out and find him.
After I took a shower and brushed my teeth, I did exactly that.
I was shocked to see that he was by the pool we were the last time that dickhead ran his mouth.
I sat down next to him, the warmth of the sun making me squint as I watched him dip his feet in the water.
He barely looked up, focused on his ice cream like it was the most important thing in the world.
"Hey," I said, nudging him lightly with my elbow.
"What’re you doing out here?" He licked his ice cream before giving me a side glance.
“Oh, you know… just contemplating life, wondering why some people think homophobia is a personality trait.” I raised an eyebrow.
“Did something happen?” I asked, getting ready to beat the crap out of anyone who messed with him.
“Oh, nothing major,” he replied, dragging out the words.
“Just our good friend from last time, the one with the verbal diarrhea? He apologized.” I blinked, surprised.
“Wait, he apologized?” Micah scoffed, flicking water from his toes.
“Yeah, it was a real hallmark moment. He came over, said something along the lines of, ‘I was out of line,’ and then had the nerve to ask if we could be cool, said I was cute and all when I'm angry.” I didn't acknowledge that part since I was trying my best not to get jealous all the time.
“And what did you say?” Micah smirked, taking another bite of his ice cream.
“I said, ‘Sure, buddy. Let’s be besties and braid each other’s hair.’” I couldn’t help but laugh.
“You didn’t,” I replied after I stopped laughing.
“You're right I didn't. But he did say that you were scary and that he didn't want to get on your bad side. Mind telling me what you did?” I started to pretend like I didn't know what he was talking about.
The look that I gave that fool must have been the reason why he apologized.
I guess I have to start going around and scare the crap out of anyone who thought that they could mess with us.
“You're only eating that? Aren't you hungry?” I asked, changing the topic so that I didn't end up arguing with him.
Micah shrugged at my question, his tongue catching another drop of ice cream before it melted in the sun.
“Cravings,” he said casually.
“I added a little something extra to make it better.” I eyed him suspiciously.
“What kind of ‘extra’ are we talking about?” Without a word, he pulled a bottle of pickle juice from behind him and casually poured it over the ice cream like it was chocolate syrup.
I recoiled, my stomach turning at the sight.
“You can’t be serious…”
Micah dipped his spoon into the soupy mess and took a huge bite, chewing like it was the most delicious thing in the world.
“Mmm, don’t knock it till you try it,” he said with a mouthful, his face deadpan.
I stared at him, horrified.
“That’s… disgusting.” He shot me a smirk, his eyes glinting with mischief.
“Oh, come on. You said you loved me, right? This is part of the package now.”I groaned, holding my hands up in surrender.
“I love you, but I’m drawing the line at pickle-flavored ice cream.” Micah snickered, moving the spoon around for another bite.
“Your loss, this is gourmet stuff right here.” I scrunched my nose up in disgust when he said that.
“You sure you’re okay?” I asked, a little more seriously this time, watching him go in for a third bite of that abomination.
Micah paused, smiling at me.
“I’m fine. The cravings just hit hard sometimes. You don’t have to worry about me.” I sighed, shaking my head as I rested my arm around his shoulders.
“I’ll worry if you start adding ketchup next.” He laughed before leaning into me.
“Don’t tempt me. It might be on the menu tomorrow.” I groaned again when he said that and I know that he meant it.
“I’ll order breakfast. No pickle juice. Deal?” He grinned.
“Deal… but no promises on dessert.” I stood up and held my hand out for him to take, which he did.
I was happy that he was feeling better. That's all I wanted for him from here on out.
