.As the family discussed Savi's adoption plans, a sudden commotion erupted. An exotic dog, its fur fluffed up, darted into the living room.
Isha Maa shrieked, her hands flying to her mouth. "Oh God, a dog! Someone get it out!"
But Savi, unfazed, stepped forward. She knelt down, extending a hand. The dog nuzzled her palm, its tail wagging.
"Hey, beautiful boy," Savi cooed, stroking the dog's soft fur.
Just then, the little girl from next door burst into the room. "My Chocolate! He's lost! Aapne dekha?" (Have you seen him?)
Savi turned, her eyes meeting the girl's frantic gaze. Something sparked within her - a deep connection.
"Your dog?" Savi asked, smiling.
The girl nodded, tears welling up. "Yes! Chocolate!
Savi gently handed the dog over to the relieved girl.
"Don't worry, he's safe," Savi reassured.
As the girl hugged Chocolate, Savi asked, "What's your name, sweetie?"
"I'm Sai," the girl replied, smiling.
Savi's world froze. Sai... The name echoed through her mind like a whispered prayer.
Suddenly, Savi was transported to a different time and place.
Flashback:
A younger Savi sat on her mother's lap, listening to stories of love and resilience.
"Maa, what does 'Sai' mean?" Savi asked, curiosity sparkling in her eyes.
Her mother, Sai, smiled. "It means 'divine' or 'blessing,' beta. You're my blessing."
Savi's eyes locked onto her mother's, filled with adoration.
Back to the present:
Savi's vision blurred as memories flooded her. She felt an inexplicable connection to this little Sai.
Savi held out the brownie, her eyes sparkling. "Hey Sai, want a treat?"
Sai hesitated, her eyes darting to Savi's face. "My Dadi said not to take anything from strangers."
Savi smiled, impressed by Sai's caution. "But we're neighbors, right?"
Sai nodded, her face softening. She took the brownie, her eyes shining.
Just then, a stately woman with brown hair and a warm smile entered the room. "Sai, beta, I was looking everywhere for you."
Sai ran to the woman, hugging her tight. "Dadi!"
Savi rose, her hands clasped together in respect. "Namaste, Aunty."
Isha Maa inserted herself, her tone icy. "You."
Bhagyashree's gaze locked onto Isha Maa, her voice equally frosty. "You."
The air thickened with tension as the two women faced off.
"What are you doing here?" Isha Maa demanded.
"I could ask you the same," Bhagyashree retorted, her eyes flashing.
Sai's eyes widened, sensing the animosity.
Savi intervened, her voice calm. "Aunty, please, let's not-"
But Isha Maa and Bhagyashree were beyond reason, their argument escalating.
Bhagyashree's eyes flashed. "You're still annoyed about this morning, aren't you?"
