Arsh Gujral's face turned beet red as he smashed his fist on the desk.
"Thakkar! This isn't the first time you've interfered!"
Ashika rushed to calm him, but Arsh's anger boiled over.
In a flash, he slapped her, sending Ashika crashing to the floor.
"From the time you came into my life, your ex-husband has been hell-bent on destroying my business!" Arsh bellowed.
Ashika's eyes welled up, her cheek stinging.
"Arsh, please understand-"
"Understand?" Arsh's voice dripped with venom. "You're still tied to him, aren't you? Still caring for him?"
Ashika struggled to stand, her voice shaking.
"Arsh, that's not true. I love you."
Arsh's laughter was cold. "Love? You call this love? You're a liability, Ashika. A constant reminder of Thakkar's presence in my life."
Arsh's eyes blazed with fury as he yanked off his belt.
"It's all because of you," he snarled, advancing towards Ashika.
The scene faded to black.
*Later*
Ashika sat in her dimly lit room, her face etched with pain. Bruises marred her skin, a stark reminder of Arsh's brutality.
Regret washed over her as memories flooded her mind:
Rajat's loving smile, their laughter, their promises.
She thought of Sai, the daughter she had left behind.
Tears streamed down her face as she realized:
"I traded love for money, and now I'm paying the price."
Ashika's gaze fell on a photo of Rajat and Sai, hidden away in her drawer.
Her voice barely above a whisper:
"Rajat, I'm sorry. I was blind."
Ashika's trembling fingers dialed Rajat's number, after nearly 5 years of silence.
She closed her eyes, unsure if he'd answer.
Taking a deep breath, she steeled herself.
Rajat's voice, firm and unfamiliar, answered on the third ring.
"Who?" he said, his tone guarded.
Ashika's words caught in her throat. She struggled to speak.
Just as Rajat was about to hang up, Ashika whispered:
"Sai... kaisi hai, Rajat?" (How is Sai?")
Rajat's pause was palpable.
"Bilkul tumhare jaisi nahi hai, meri beti." (My daughter is nothing like you."
Ashika's eyes welled up with tears.
Rajat's voice turned icy.
"And don't call again, Miss Ashika, mistress of Arsh Gujral."
The line went dead.
Ashika crumpled, sobs racking her body.
....
Rajat's thoughts lingered on Ashika's call when a gentle knock broke the silence.
"Sai?" Rajat called out, opening the door.
