Rajat's stern expression frightened Sai. "Why did you go to our neighbor's house?"
Sai trembled. "She's my Savi teacher, Papa."
Rajat's voice rose. "But why? You know better than to go to strangers' homes."
Bhagyashree intervened, calmly. "Rajat, I let her go. She was upset you didn't pick her up, and Savi was kind to her."
Rajat's concern turned to suspicion. "Those people are strangers. What if they harm her?"
Bhagyashree reassured him. "They're nice people, Rajat. Savi cares for Sai. And savi is not a stranger. It felt like savi birth sai."
Rajat's tone turned authoritarian. "I don't trust outsiders. That woman was giving Sai milk. What if...? And Maa, you know better who birth saisha, don't just take the side of that teacher."
He turned to Sai, his voice firm. "You'll never go to anyone's house but ours. Understand?"
Sai nodded, tears welling up.
Bhagyashree's gentle touch on Rajat's arm softened his stance.
Rajat dismissed Sai. "Go do your homework."
As Sai left, Bhagyashree turned to Rajat, concern etched on her face. "Why are you always so angry at that little girl? She's your daughter."
Rajat's expression remained stoic. "Sai should always be in control."
Bhagyashree's eyes narrowed. "Control? She's just a child. She needs love, guidance. And she felt love from savi that's why she went there. The love that you are not giving to sai."
Rajat's voice was flat. "Love makes you weak. Control keeps you safe."
Bhagyashree's voice took on a gentle, probing tone. "Rajat, what happened to you? You used to be full of love and laughter. Ashika was just a storm that goes away."
Rajat's gaze turned cold, his jaw clenched. "That was before... everything."
The air was heavy with unspoken secrets.
Rajat's voice dropped to a whisper, his eyes clouding. "If I don't control my daughter, maybe she'll become like her mother."
Bhagyashree's expression turned shocked. "Rajat, what are you talking about? Sai is living with us. She will become the person she is being raised by us. Just Ashika is her mother, it doesnt make sai like her."
Rajat's face twisted in bitterness. "Maa, blood is always blood. How well we can raise sai but blood will show the color. And I want sai to be mine blood not Ashika."
Bhagyashree's voice softened. "Rajat, sai isn't 5 yet still you are saying ridiculous thing."
Rajat's words spilled out, laced with venom. "I don't want any trace of her mother in Sai. No weakness, no impulsiveness. No running away. No greed. Sai will be strong and controlled."
Bhagyashree's eyes filled with tears. "You're suffocating Sai, Rajat. She needs love, freedom."
Rajat's gaze turned icy. "You don't understand, Maa. I'm protecting Sai from herself. From her own blood trait."
The rift between them grew wider.
Rajat's voice dripped with venom. "Her mother ran off with that rich lover, abandoning us. I won't let Sai bring shame to our family name."
Bhagyashree's expression turned sorrowful. "Savi is just a child, Rajat. She's innocent."
Rajat's jaw clenched. "We parents must shape our children. This strictness is best for Sai. I won't let her follow in her mother's footsteps."
Bhagyashree's eyes filled with concern. "But Rajat, that's not fair to Sai. She needs love, guidance."
Rajat's tone turned cold. "Fair? Life isn't fair, Maa. Now, serve me dinner."
Bhagyashree's gaze lingered on Rajat's face before she nodded silently and headed to the kitchen.
Rajat's thoughts echoed in his mind:
I'll protect our family's reputation, no matter the cost.
......
Rajat was lied on his bed. His thoughts drifted to Ashika, Sai's mother.
Memories of their college days flooded his mind:
Laughing together, study sessions, whispered promises.
Their 10-year relationship had been passionate, committed.
But it all ended abruptly:
Ashika's words still echoed in his mind:
"Rajat, I'm sorry. I need financial security. He can give me that."
The rich man's face, Ashika's hand in his.
Rajat's anger and heartbreak simmered, still raw.
He recalled their last argument:
"How can you leave me, Ashika? After everything we've shared?"
Ashika's cold response:
"You're not successful enough, Rajat. I deserve better."
Rajat's gaze fell on Sai's photo.
"My daughter won't follow in your footsteps," he vowed.
Rajat's phone buzzed, breaking his thoughts. Aman, his secretary, spoke on the other end.
"Sir, we got the deal! Gujral was about to finalize it, but our team outsmarted them."
Rajat's expression transformed from somber to triumphant. He smirked, his voice dripping with satisfaction.
"Ashika, you left me for money. But slowly, slowly, I'll vanish your lover's name from the business world."
He paused, savoring the victory.
"Aman, make sure Gujral's company knows we're the ones who took this deal. I want them to feel the sting."
Aman's hesitation was palpable. "Sir, is that necessary?"
Rajat's tone turned icy. "Just do it, Aman. This is personal."
The line went dead. Rajat's gaze fell on Sai's photo.
"For you, my daughter. I'll ensure no one ever takes advantage of us again."
