the confession

The days rolled by, and Aera found herself lost in thought, replaying every moment spent with Jimin since their reunion. Despite the warmth of their friendship, a simmering tension filled the air, especially as they approached the two-week mark since their pivotal meeting with the team about Nan Hee and Shi Ho. Aera knew she had to take the leap and confess her feelings to Jimin; it was time to unravel the tangled threads of their past.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow in Aera's room, she rehearsed her words in front of the mirror. Her heart raced with anticipation and fear. What if he doesn't feel the same? The thought gnawed at her, but she pushed it aside. She needed to do this, not only for herself but also for Jimin. If he remembered, it would make things easier for Shi Ho too.

The next day, after school, Aera and Jimin found themselves in the quiet of the park near her house. The sun was setting, casting a golden hue around them, and the gentle rustling of leaves added to the serene atmosphere. Aera took a deep breath, feeling the weight of her decision pressing down on her.

"Jimin, can we talk?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Of course, Aera. What's on your mind?" He looked at her, his expression attentive, yet a hint of confusion lingered in his eyes.

"I've been thinking a lot lately... about us." She paused, searching for the right words. "About our childhood, about everything that's happened since then." Aera's heart raced as she gathered her courage. "Jimin, I love you."

The air around them seemed to pause, the world fading into the background as Jimin processed her words. Aera held her breath, a mix of hope and fear flooding her senses.

"I...," Jimin began, and Aera's heart sank for a moment, bracing herself for a possible rejection. But instead, he continued, "I don't know what to say."

Aera took a step closer, her resolve firm. "You don't have to say anything. I just needed you to know how I feel." She looked down for a moment, her cheeks warming with embarrassment. Then she added softly, "If you feel the same, I would like to show you how much you mean to me."

Jimin's gaze softened as he studied her face, the sincerity in her eyes making his heart flutter. "Aera, I..." He hesitated, as if searching for the right words. "I can't promise I remember everything, but I do feel a connection with you. A familiarity I can't explain."

With a shy smile, Aera reached out and gently touched the scar on his cheek. "Then let me give you something to remember." Leaning forward, she pressed a soft kiss on the scar, her lips lingering for a moment longer than she intended. It was a simple gesture, but the moment felt monumental.

Jimin closed his eyes, taking in the warmth of the moment. When he opened them, Aera was looking at him with hope and affection, and he felt a surge of emotion that left him momentarily speechless. "Thank you," he finally managed, his voice barely above a whisper.

As they sat on the bench, the silence between them was comforting, yet charged with unspoken words. Aera leaned her head against his shoulder, feeling a sense of peace wash over her. "I just want you to remember," she murmured, closing her eyes.

That night, as Jimin drifted off to sleep, the familiar dream returned. This time, it was vibrant, bursting with color instead of the dull gray he had come to expect. He saw himself as a child, running and laughing with a little girl. Her laughter rang in his ears, and as he turned to look at her, his heart skipped a beat. The girl's face was clearer than ever, and he felt a jolt of recognition. It was Aera—his childhood friend, the girl he had always felt a connection to.

In his dream, they were practicing archery, just like they used to, but there was a sudden shift. The scene changed, and they were sitting in front of a television, giggling at a cartoon. The atmosphere was light, filled with warmth and happiness until the news broke in—a fire had consumed a building in the city, and his parents had been working there that day. Jimin's heart raced as panic set in. He watched as Aera, younger but so familiar, turned to him, her eyes filled with concern.

He could feel the tears streaming down his cheeks in the dream, and he tried to hold onto Aera's hand, but the scene shifted once more. The laughter faded, replaced by the chilling reality of loss. His parents were gone, and all he had left was a memory of Aera beside him, trying to console him while holding back her own tears.

When he woke the next morning, Jimin was overwhelmed by the clarity of the dream. The image of Aera's younger face was etched in his mind, more vivid than it had ever been before. He couldn't shake the feeling that it was a sign—a nudge from the universe telling him to remember, to uncover the truths buried deep within him.

As he prepared for the day, he couldn't help but think of Aera. He needed to tell her about the dream, to share the fragments of memory that were beginning to break through the fog of his mind. Perhaps, just perhaps, their shared past could guide them toward a brighter future.
