Damian Wayne stood on the edge of a bridge, his robes pulled all the way up. He was looking out at Gotham. In the night air it looked beautiful. With all the lights on, and the rain only adding to the glow.
In the distance smoke and fire rose above the buildings, and sounds of warfare echoing.
Damian wasn't paying attention to Ra's al Ghul. He stood behind him, focused on his grandson.
"They knew our forces were coming."
"It appears so. But how?"
"Perhaps they have a spy."
Ra's rested his hand on his blade's hilt, looking at Damian as if he was going to strike him down.
Damian swallowed, "Nightwing captured my mother. Perhaps she has been spying. I honestly don't know. It all seems to foreign to me, a siege like this."
Ra's pondered his grandson's words, letting go of the sword and standing next to Damian.
Both of their hoods were drawn, and they wore the same brace to hold their sword. It arched over their right shoulder, the sword on their left hip, belted to his waist. They truly looked of the same bloodline.
Ra's spoke, "you feel for this city, don't you? Despite your judgement I see the memories flooding your mind."
"I-"
"It's okay, Damian. At one point I, too, loved this city. But its corruption and violence killed it."
Damian returned his gaze to the skyline as Ra's spoke: "It is time we ensure it's death."

Cass Cain stood at the back of the League forces on her side. The others were being diminished. But it didn't matter, one of the biggest weapons the enemy possessed was standing in front of her, still operational.
Lady Shiva stood, her sword drawn. It was a ninjato, with a red wrap, and a matching tail coming off the pommel. Her eyes watched Cass, focused on the Katana in her hands.
"Daughter," Shiva said to Cass, "you've grown so much."
Cass studied her as they circled. Her brain was analyzing every step she took.
Balanced.
Confident.
Strong.
Light steps.
Conclusion: DANGER!Cass held her sword in front of her, the tip leaning towards her enemy. She remembered her conversation with Thomas.
I'll be there for you until the end. We're family.
Cass pulled her sword to her side, "I am no longer your daughter. My mother was Selina Wayne. And today I fight in my family's honor."
She charged, running forward with a war cry. She slapped Shiva's blow away, leaping into the air and slashing at the Lady's back.
Shiva turned quickly, swiping her sword at Orphan, who side-stepped, blocking the sword. Cass aimed for Shiva's face, she barely stuck her sword up in time.
They held the lock as Shiva spoke: "You've become a mighty warrior."
Distraction!
Cass moved her leg, trapping Shiva's. Shiva looked down in surprise. She helped train Cass to be the perfect weapon. But she never expected Cass to work against her.
Orphan broke the lock, drawing her sword back for the next blow. Shiva took the oppurtunity, slashing at Cass' side.
Cass stumbled back, holding her side. It had cut through her suit, shallowly slashing into her skin.
"Cassandra, can't you see you're fighting for the wrong side?" Shiva spoke like she was reasoning to her teenage daughter about the error of her ways.
Cass shook her head, "these people were there for me when no one else was. When you and David brainwashed me, these people held me up. They let me make my own choices, and were there to guide me when I needed it."
Anger creeped into Cass' voice like a snake had coiled around her throat, "my little brother was there for me when I needed it most, he showed me kindness, and compassion, and patience. I wasn't there for him like I should have been, but I'm here now. You are attacking our city. My city. Leave, now. Or you'll be giving me no choice."
Shiva drew her right foot back, pain lining her voice, "I'm so very disappointed in you, Cassandra. I thought I raised you better."
"You didn't raise me. Everything you did to me has been undone. My family made sure of it."
Shiva smiled, "your family? Your family is broken. Your mother and father are dead. Nightwing is dead."
"They've all been dead a long time."
"You didn't hear?"
Cass hesitated, "hear what?"
"The new Nightwing, the red one, he's dead. Ibn Al Xu'ffasch killed your brother."
"You're lying," Cass said, regaining her composure.
"I am not. And even if he is still alive, he will die. It is prophecized. Death to the son of Gotham."
"Shut up!" Cass rushed forward, jumping into the air, her sword ready for the finishing blow. But when she landed she couldn't move. Her sword never connected because her arm was limp at her side.
She looked down, seeing the sword Shiva drove into her left shoulder. Blood was trickling out, and two inches of the blade emerged from Cass' back.
It seemed like time stopped. All that Cass saw was the sword, and all she could think about was death. Who was waiting for her, who she would be leaving behind.
No, she didn't accept that. She slammed her sword into the metal lodged into her body, snapping the blade. Her sword came around and she didn't know what part of the weapon connected where. All she knew was that Shiva was laid out on the ground, and her blade dripped with blood.

Across the battle field, James was still on the machine gun. Another soldier was feeding in belt after belt of ammo. League ninjas were getting mowed down one by one.
It was an effective strategy, until the gun ran out of ammo. The rifles had already been out of ammo, some of the riflemen were out of time, too.
All James could see was the sword headed his way. He ducked, moving around and throwing his fist at the assassin.
He got pushed back into the dirt, the League man standing over him. James grabbed a rifle off the ground, using it to bar the blade inches away from his face.
It took all of his strength to resist, and he could feel his heart rate rising. A gunshot rang out, a loud blast cutting through all the noise.
The ninja fell limp, his head jerking back and taking his body down with it. James looked to the source and found Jason standing at the intersection, a smoking gun in his right hand.
Red Hood nodded before he raised the gun hoisted over his left shoulder. A giant artillery gun, the kind made for warplanes. And Jason opened fire.
The sound was a mechanical whirring that sounded like a jet engine, or the world's largest drill as the barrels spun.
James laid back, seeing the shilouette of the Redwing in the air before he blacked out. Whatever happened, he just hoped Jason could save them. But there was still one other question in his mind:
Where was Nightwing?
