Tianna's POV

I sat at my desk as my eyes fixed on the clock as the minutes ticked by slowly. The hum of my classmates' chatter and the teacher's lecture seemed distant. I was lost in my thoughts when my teacher's voice broke through.

"Tianna, you're dismissed for your appointment,"
the teacher announced, causing a few heads to turn.

I sighed in relief and gathered my things quickly, my heart was racing with a mix of nerves and excitement. I left the classroom and  walked to the office where my mom was waiting, a reassuring smile on her face.

"Ready?" Mh mom asked and I nodded.
We walked out to the car and I buckled up and looked down at my phone, seeing Teyanna's text, wishing me luck. I hearted her message and sat straight up looking forward.

The drive to the clinic felt long, every stoplight and turn amplifying my anticipation. When we finally arrived, we checked in at the front desk and waited for my name to be called.

"Tianna Edmonds" the nurse said, leading us to a room.

The nurse took my vitals and she had to take my blood pressure twice to get a correct reading, she said it was a little elevated but she was sure that it was caused by being in the clinic and being under stress.

We led us to the exam room and had me lay back on the examination table.
The nurse asked a few routine questions about my health before Dr Jackie came in's

"How have you been feeling? Any morning sickness?" the nurse inquired.

"It was a lot in the beginning, but it's not too bad now" I answered. There were a few more questions that I had to answer before the nurse left out and Dr Jackie came in.

Doctor Jacky entered with a warm smile.
"Hi Tianna and Toni, It's nice to see you!.
Tianna Ready for your first ultrasound?"

I nodded nervously.. Jackie prepared the equipment and  asked for me to lay down before applying the gel to my stomach.
As the ultrasound began, the room filled with the soft sound of the machine.

"Let's take a look," Doctor Jacky said, moving the probe gently. The screen flickered, and soon the image of my baby appeared, tiny and innocent.

"There's your baby," Doctor Jackie pointed out, smiling.

My eyes filled with tears of joy, relief, fear and sadness.

As the ultrasound continued, Doctor Jackie took measurements and made notes. "Everything looks good," she said, turning the screen so Tianna and her mom could see more clearly. "The baby is developing well. I'll say you're about 16 weeks along."

I looked over and see my mom wiped away a tear from her cheek. She was avoiding a conversation and eye contact.

"I can actually tell you the gender if you want..."

"..Sure.."

Suddenly, mom couldn't take it anymore and left out of the room, sobbing.
Dr Jackie sent mom a sympathetic look and wiped the gel off stomach and excused herself so she could go after my mom.

Nobody's POV

"Toni, wait!"

Toni stopped but doesn't turn around.
Dr. Jackie reaches her and places a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"I know this is incredibly hard for you. Seeing your daughter go through at this age..it's heartbreaking."

"I shouldn't be seeing her go through this.
She'd 16! It's just overwhelming!
I just had a baby and now she's having one?"

"It's okay to feel overwhelmed. You're a strong parent, and your love and support will make a huge difference for her."

"I can't handle it..."

"You can and if you're not there for her then she won't have the strength. You're her mother and I know it's hard but she really does need you Toni.
I can see it in her eyes."

"I just never imagined being in this situation. I feel like I've failed as a parent."

"You haven't failed. Life throws unexpected challenges at us. What matters is how we respond. And you're responding with love and concern, which is exactly what she needs."

"I want to be there for her, but I don't know if I have the strength."

"You do, Toni. And it's okay to lean on others when you need to. Your daughter will see your strength and resilience, and it will help her find her own."

"Thank you, Jackie. You've really been here since day one and I appreciate you."
