It was supposed to be a fun Jenga-playing session. At the current moment, they'd decided to take a break as they made sandwiches and huddled around the dinner table. There was banter and recipes of laughter as everyone settled into their seats, ready to dig into their plates.
Everything was going well.
Until the normal atmosphere changed drastically when there was a loud 'thud!' that reverberated across the four walls. Beomgyu had accidentally dropped his glass on the floor, which shattered into tiny little shards as the orange juice spilled out of it like a free-flowing river.
It was this event that triggered something unspeakable in Beomgyu and flicked something inside him like a switch.
It was as if he was possessed by an invisible spirit, tormented by his own brain. At the sight of his mistake, his hands immediately went to clutch his head in his hands and he shook it ferociously. Suddenly, all he could hear were his ears ringing and his heart thumping wildly against his chest, threatening to pop out of its ribcage.
"No, no, no, no," he kept chanting like a prayer on his lips, his voice low and husky. His eyes were laced with terror, and his facial features were etched with trepidation.
It was enough to alarm the rest of the four in the room that something was seriously, very wrong.
Yeonjun was the first to shake free of his shock of seeing Beomgyu this way. He takes one step forward, then another, approaching him slowly yet carefully.
"Beomgyu? What happened?" He lifts out his hand just a tad bit, afraid that it would trigger Beomgyu even more.
But Beomgyu couldn't hear a word of what anyone was saying anymore. His eyes glazed over, he couldn't make sense of where he was and who was around him.
In that moment, all he could see was a hallucogenic vision of his mother approaching him swiftly with a baseball bat in her hand, and his brain was flooded with the image of what the aftermath would ensue.
'Not again...' his mind went. 'Not right now, PLEASE!' He begged, but his mind wouldn't listen to him.
The image was so vivid that his knees buckled beneath him, unable to hold his weight. He dropped down to the floor with a thud, Yeonjun slowly making to kneel down beside him.
Taehyun's adrenaline kicked in and made a beeline for the kitchen to grab a glass of cold water as Hueningkai rushed to Beomgyu's side in an instant to ensure he didn't sustain any injuries from falling down so hard. Soobin stood unsure and frozen, shocked at what was unfolding in front of him.
"Please!" He cried out to no one in particular, so loud that it startled the four of them. He was still inside the vision of him and his mother, the rest of the world disappearing around him.
"It was only an accident! I won't do it again, I promise!" His shouts turned hoarse, his crying turned to sobbing, and his friends around him shared worried glances with one another, wondering how the hell their cheesy Beomgyu's attitude could take a turn for the worse so quickly.
"NO, NO, NO, NO!" What he was chanting quietly to himself a few moments ago turned to screaming and wailing like a madman trapped inside his thoughts. Tears streamed down his face as his worst fear came to passing: His mother was going to put him in the 'Dark Room' again for making a mistake.
