My best friend Elena was brutally murdered one month ago in this school and I have one solid proof na makakapagpatunay na sa school na ito nag-aaral ang suspect.
I really love my childhood friend, but that murderer took her life away, and there's no forgiveness to that criminal.
I need to earn money and be able to stay longer at the school to gather evidence.
"Pakisoot na nito bukas, ineng, dahil no uniform, no entry, okay?"
I was heading down the stairs when disaster struck. One of my feet slipped on the step, and I felt myself tumbling forward. My heart leaped into my throat, but before I could hit the ground, someone grabbed my collar from behind, yanking me back to safety.
Muntik na 'kong mag-agaw buhay! Taragis!
I stood there, frozen, my heart pounding as I turned to see who had saved me. I nearly choked. My savior was ridiculously handsome, black hair, deep brown eyes, tall with broad shoulders. He was practically the embodiment of my ideal man. For a moment, I just stood there, staring at him like an idiot.
Oh crap! Get it together, Ottilie! I shook my head and without thinking, slapped my face right in front of him. This is not the right time to admire someone, I have too many problems to deal with, at ayoko ng magdagdag pa.
"Are you... okay?" he asked, his tone both amusing and concerned.
I quickly bowed. "I’m fine! Thank you for saving me! Goodbye!" I was ready to make a swift exit and put this whole embarrassing moment behind me.
But as I turned to leave, the man casually followed me. We started walking down the stairs together, much to my surprise. "I’m heading to the cafeteria," he said, almost nonchalantly.
I shot him a glance. "Oh, ako din," I blurted out.
He smirked, clearly amused. "Then follow me," he said. "Are you a transfer student?"
I nodded. "Yeah. I just moved here from the city."
He nodded in understanding, his hands casually stuffed in his pockets. "Crimson Academy’s pretty famous. You made a good choice coming here."
"Yeah," I agreed, though my reasons for being here were far from typical.
I had a mission in coming here, finding Elena’s murderer. Sure, Crimson Academy was famous, and I was lucky to have passed the strict entrance exams, but my purpose was clear. I wasn’t here for the prestige, I was here for answers.
I want answers.
When we finally reached the cafeteria, I grabbed a tray and selected a few dishes. Once I was done, I found a spot by the window. Strangely, the man followed me and sat across from me, setting his tray down without asking.
"Mind if I share the table?" he asked, though he was already sitting. "It’s pretty lonely eating alone."
I shrugged. "Sige lang."
We ate in silence for a few minutes, which was fine with me. Pero nagsalita na naman siya.
"Name’s Slate Van," he introduced himself, leaning back in his chair with a relaxed air.
I had no choice but to introduce myself as well. "Ottilie," I said simply.
We talked a bit as we ate, mostly small talk. Slate mentioned that he was a second-year student and part of a band. Apparently, he was the drummer, but they were still looking for a lead vocalist who could also play bass.
I raised an eyebrow, already impressed. "Wow, that’s cool. Good luck with that. I can’t sing, but I play the violin." I immediately regretted sharing that little fact.
Slate’s eyes lit up. "A violinist, huh? That’s rare. You should play for the band sometime."
I shook my head quickly. "No, no, I’m just an amateur. I wouldn’t be any good."
Slate just shrugged, smirking again as if he wasn’t entirely convinced. We finished our meals, and I couldn’t help but wonder what I’d just gotten myself into.
"What in the hell is this!" Plutus growled, gesturing to the cluttered kitchen.
