As the morning wore on, the tension slowly started to ease. Neuvillette, after finishing his tea, finally seemed to relax a bit, though his mood was still clouded by the events of the previous night. He glanced over at you and Felix, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly in what could have been the faintest hint of a smile, but it was quickly replaced by his usual stern expression.
He set his teacup down with a soft clink, breaking the silence. "If tonight is as bad as last night... you know what will happen, right?" His voice carried a lightness, but the warning was clear, though there was almost a teasing edge to it now.
Felix chuckled nervously and gave him a quick nod. "Got it, got it. We'll be quiet."
The rest of the team couldn't help but exchange amused glances. The heavy atmosphere had finally lightened up, and Neuvillette seemed less on edge now, though the quiet threat lingered in the air.
Later that evening, the group decided to have a little fun. Duolingo, always full of energy, had brought out a karaoke machine, insisting it would be a great way to unwind after such a long day. Everyone was surprisingly on board with the idea, even Neuvillette, though he sat off to the side, observing with his usual composed expression.
Freddy went first, belting out an enthusiastic yet off-key rendition of a classic song, which had everyone in stitches. Daddy Hello Kitty Batman joined in with him, their laughter echoing through the house as they playfully tried to out-sing each other.
Then, it was Felix's turn. He stood up with a confident grin, grabbing the microphone. "Alright, guys, this one's for you," he said, winking at you before starting his performance. As the first notes of "Deep End" began to play, the room fell silent.
Felix's voice was smooth and deep, filled with emotion as he sang each note flawlessly. Everyone sat stunned, their laughter from earlier fading into awe. Even Neuvillette and Emo Jesus, who had been side-eyeing you and Felix all day, were momentarily speechless.
By the time Felix reached the chorus, you couldn't hold back your emotions anymore. Tears welled up in your eyes as you watched him sing with so much passion. Without thinking, you stood up, crossing the room to him as the song reached its peak. Felix's eyes met yours, and as the last note faded, you threw your arms around him, tears streaming down your face.
You kissed him, the emotion of the moment overwhelming you. Felix kissed you back, holding you close, and for a moment, the world seemed to disappear around you.
But not for everyone.
Neuvillette let out an exaggerated sigh, rolling his eyes at the overly romantic display. "This again?" he muttered, though there was the smallest hint of a smile pulling at his lips, like he was almost amused by it all. It was probably the first time anyone had seen him smile like that.
Emo Jesus, sitting next to him, made a face, shaking his head in mock disgust. "Ugh, please. Get a room, lovebirds."
The rest of the group chuckled softly but it was full of emotion. The mood now light and carefree as Felix hugged you close. Even Neuvillette, despite his disapproval, couldn't hide that faint smile.
Felix kissed you back softly, holding you close as the emotional moment lingered. The room was quiet, the weight of the silence broken only by the sound of your soft sobs and the faint hum of the karaoke machine. Felix wiped away your tears gently, his eyes filled with affection.
Across the room, Neuvillette sat with his arms crossed, watching the scene with a mixture of annoyance and something else—maybe a hint of understanding. His expression was mostly neutral, but his lips twitched ever so slightly, like he was holding back a comment.
Emo Jesus, who had been leaning against the wall, finally spoke up, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Wow, could you two be any more dramatic? This isn't a soap opera."
Neuvillette, still watching with a steady gaze, sighed heavily and finally muttered, "If this happens again, we'll have to talk about a new rule for the house." But then, to everyone's surprise, he allowed himself a brief, almost reluctant smile—his first in a long time. "Just... keep it down tonight," he added with a slight chuckle that he quickly tried to stifle.
Felix smiled at Neuvillette, sensing the shift in mood. "Thanks, Neuvillette. We'll... try." He winked playfully, squeezing your hand as you leaned into him.
Neuvillette shook his head slightly, still maintaining his composure. "I'm serious, though. Any more of this, and you might not wake up as peacefully as you'd hope." His words were sharp, but the faint smile lingered, a rare glimpse of his softer side.
The room remained quiet, no laughter or teasing from the rest of the group. It was just you, Felix, and the weight of the moment, with Neuvillette and Emo Jesus watching, half amused, half resigned to the inevitable display of affection.
But in the end, the night continued with a more subdued atmosphere, the tension giving way to an unspoken understanding among the team. Everyone respected the quiet, knowing that moments like these, though overwhelming for some, were part of what made this strange, mismatched group a real team.
