Your mind raced. A deal? What deal? Felix had never mentioned anything like this. The figure, still wearing Felix's face—though distorted now, something alien about his features—took another step forward. You pressed yourself against the wall, heart hammering, desperately trying to think of a way out.
"I don't understand," you whispered, your voice barely audible. "What are you talking about?"
The figure chuckled, an eerie, hollow sound that made your skin crawl. "Of course, he didn't tell you. He thought he could hide it, that he could protect you." He paused, studying your face. "But you can't outrun fate. Felix belonged to me the moment he made that choice. And now, so do you."
Your blood turned to ice. You reached blindly for something, anything, to defend yourself with, but the room seemed to shift around you, the shadows warping and stretching as if they were alive. The figure's eyes gleamed in the darkness, following your every move.
"Let him go," you pleaded, though your voice was shaking. "Please—take me instead if that's what you want."
The figure stopped, a slow, sinister grin spreading across its face. "Take you instead?" it repeated, amused. "Now that...is an interesting offer."
For a moment, the room seemed to hold its breath. Then, in a sudden burst of movement, the figure lunged at you, faster than you could react. You screamed, feeling the cold hands close around your wrists, pulling you into the suffocating darkness.
But just as you felt yourself being dragged into the abyss, something snapped inside you. A memory—a faint whisper of Felix's voice, telling you to be strong. Telling you not to give in.
With all your strength, you twisted in the figure's grasp and screamed, "Felix, fight him! I know you're in there!"
For a split second, the figure hesitated. The shadows flickered, and in the eerie silence that followed, you thought you saw something—something human—flicker behind the creature's eyes.
Then, with a snarl, it shoved you to the ground, towering over you. "Felix is gone," it hissed, though there was an edge of uncertainty in its voice now. "You can't save him."
You scrambled backward, your breath coming in ragged gasps. But deep down, you refused to believe it. Felix couldn't be gone. You wouldn't let this thing win.
With trembling hands, you reached into your nightstand, pulling out an old silver locket Felix had given you months ago. He'd told you it had been in his family for generations—something about it always made you feel safe. Now, it was your only hope.
Gripping the locket tightly, you held it out in front of you. "Felix, if you can hear me—come back!" you shouted, your voice breaking. "I'm not leaving you!"
The figure froze, its eyes narrowing as it stared at the locket. A strange, guttural growl escaped its throat, and for the first time, it stepped back. The room seemed to ripple around you, the shadows recoiling from the light that glimmered faintly from the locket.
"Impossible," the figure snarled, its voice trembling with rage. "You can't—"
But before it could finish, the shadows around it exploded in a flash of light. The figure screamed, its form distorting, and for a brief moment, you saw him—really saw him—Felix, standing there, his face twisted in pain, but his eyes—his real eyes—locked onto yours.
"I'm sorry," Felix whispered, his voice barely audible beneath the chaos.
And then, with a final, agonizing roar, the shadowy figure vanished, leaving nothing but silence.
