A/N continues from last one shot
(Mia's POV)
"Ok baby I'm coming xx." I text her back. I get the girls in the car and drive up to the nursery to collect Char, she's already waiting in the carpark shivering, her face pale and sweaty. She gets into the car and I throw my arms around her in a hug. "God sweetheart you're really not well are you?" "I'm fine," she sniffles. "I just need a lie down." I put my hand on her forehead to see she's burning up. "Baby you're really not well, let's get you some medicine come on." Char rests her head onto my shoulder, closing her eyes halfway. "How's Cece doing is she ok?" "I hot," Cece pipes.
Char reaches her hand back towards her car seat. "My poor bubba, are you not feeling well?" "Cece no feel well?" Fraya frowns, holding her sister's finger for emotional support. "Be better." "Fraya my pumpkin I think you mean get better," I correct. "Can you say get better soon Cece?" "Be better," Fraya repeats with the same cute sincere tone as before. Char and I both snigger to one another and I drive us all back home.
By the time we arrive, Cece's fallen back asleep in her car seat. "Bless her," I whisper getting her out and carrying her inside. I pop her on the sofa with her panda snuggly and take her temperature again, which still reads a little too high. "Come on here then my other patient," I say to Char gesturing her to sit on my lap as I sit on the chair opposite the sofa. "Let me just take your reading as well if that's ok." I hold the thermometer by her ear. "My poor baby you have got a high temperature, what do you need medicine? A damp cloth?" "No Mia it's alright I've got the girls to look after," Char insists. "Thank you though but I really think if I take some paracetamol I can manage." "Baby listen to me," whisper stroking my hand on her thigh. "You're not feeling well and you need to rest, I can watch the girls for the day it's all ok just let me look after you."
"You're so annoyingly good to me sometimes," Char mumbles sleepily. Fraya taps my shoulder, holding the empty calpol syringe I'd left on the sofa cousin. "Mummy need sickie wiquid?" She hands me the syringe, smiling to herself at her efforts. "Did she just call Calpol sickie liquid?" Char murmurs half asleep. "She sure did," I smile. "This kid is wise beyond her years. Thank you Fraya sweetie but Mummy needs special grown up medicine." "Fraya get it?" Fraya asks eagerly, her eyes wide and smile beaming. I bend down to ruffle her cute little curls affectionately. "Sorry little one but children can't hold grown up medicine ok? It's not safe for you, Mamma will get it. Sorry baby do you mind?"
"Not at all," Char yawns standing herself up slowly. "Just one small problem I thought you were supposed to keep medicine out of reach of small children?" "You are," I say a little confused. "So why are you fetching it for me then?" She laughs teasingly. "Charlotte Victoria," I gasp playfully. "I'm going to let you get away with that cheek, but only because you're poorly." She just smirks and narrows her eyes. "Amelia come on now, we both know I get away with taking all sorts of tones with you."
"You do indeed," I grin. "The things I put up with from the woman that I love huh?" I playfully boop her nose before going to get her medicine and a warm cloth. "I poor the medicine onto a spoon and hand feed Char a spoonful before placing the cloth on her forehead. "Is that too hot for you? Too cold?" "It's perfect," she smiles sleepily. "Could you entertain Fraya for five minutes I just... I need a nap." "Of course baby," I say. "Come on Fraya let's go somewhere else while Mummy and Cece have a quick sleep."
I draw the curtains and turn the light off in the living room before picking Fraya up and carrying her upstairs to hers and Cece's bedroom. She predictably pulls out her duck slide and I turn it on for her and she watches with absolute fascination as the ducks follow the track up the stairs and down the slide, like she hadn't watched it over a thousand times already. "Wow," she gasps as each duck descended down the slide. "Quack quack! Look Mummy, it duckies!" "I know pumpkin," I smile. She clasps her hands gleefully, completely mesmerised by it all.
After about 10 minutes, she turns away from the slide and sulks with her arms folded. "Me bored, when Cece and Mummy wake?" "Soon bubba," I tell her. "I promise." "Why Cece sickie?" She asks. "Because some naughty germs came into their bodies," I explain giving her a playful tickle under her chin which makes her hysterically laugh. "Naughty germs!" "I know," I laugh. "Very naughty germs." "Naughty germs make Cece and Mummy sickie!" She frowns, taking several laps across the width of the room as fast as her little feet and carry her.
"Naughty germs go away," she shouts which I can't but laugh at endearingly. "Right my little germ fighter shall we go and check on them both now?" "Yes!" Fraya pipes enthusiastically taking my hand as I lead her downstairs. We come back into the living room to see the lights back on and both of them awake, snuggling cutely on the sofa. "How are my little patients?" I ask snuggling up next to Char, closely followed by Fraya. I place mg hand on both their foreheads once more, feeling they've seemed to cool down a little.
"Are you feeling better at all? You both seem less hot." "Yeah," Char grumbles. "I'm feeling a little better now thank you." "I'm glad," I smile. Cece just nods slowly still tightly clutching her panda under one arm. "Naughty germs," Fraya pipes again. "Naughty germs make Mummy and Cece sickie!" "Naughty germs," Char sniggers. "That's right Fraya they are very naughty." "I think I know where she got her quick wit from," I laugh pointing to myself. "Absolutely not," Char teases. "Clearly she got it from me I am hilarious." "Sure sweetheart I'll let you have that because you're poorly," I say kissing the top of her head gently.
