Realization
A scared teenage girl.
Her? This Norse goddess who just threatened hundreds of people with a weapon that seemed otherworldly? Who spoke with a voice so authoritative?
As Loki sat with his younger sister, trying to get her to speak, he watched her body language carefully. When he tried to tap in with her telepathically, he'd get a shooting pain in his temple, as if something was forcing him out.
But what?
"Sister," Loki whispered. "Look at me, please."
Y/N avoided his gaze, opting to stare into nothingness as if she hadn't heard him at all.
Loki sighed. "I know you can hear me. Something is wrong, my dear sister, and I want to help. Just as you helped me."
Once again, he was met with silence.
Thor stepped in, resting a hand on Loki's shoulder. "Brother... we can speak with her later. Obviously-"
"No," Loki cut him off. "She's in there, Thor. Look at her eyes."
Thor sighed, but obliged. "Her eyes are E/C, as they always are."
Loki rolled his. "No, you blathering oaf. When Barton was talking over at S.H.I.E.L.D., he said that her eyes where an eerie blue."
Thor pondered this thought. "She never practiced magic with her eye color, did she?"
"No."
Thor and Loki both whipped their heads around. Y/N was sitting up straighter than before, blood leaking out from the top of her hand. She had scraped it with her fingernail. Loki instantly knelt beside her, wincing at the sight. "Y/N? Can you hear me?"
Y/N blearily blinked at him, as if trying to look at him from underwater. "Yes."
Loki sighed in relief. "Oh, dear sister... are you alright?"
Thor joined the two. "We're so worried."
Y/N sniffed. "You should be... just not about me."
Loki furrowed his brow, exchanging a look with Thor. "Why?"
Y/N's lip trembled. "You should be worried about what I've done."
Thor looked worried. "'What you've done'? Y/N, what's going on?"
Y/N shook her head, whispering, "He's listening."
Loki immediately asked, "Who?"
But Y/N didn't respond, gaining that same blank look back.
Loki looked at his younger sister with a pleading look, shaking her gently, trying to get another response. "Y/N. Y/N, please. Talk to me."
Thor shook his head, gently pulling his brother back. "Loki... she's cuffed. She can't go anywhere."
Loki fought him off. "She shouldn't be cuffed, Thor! You know her! She's your little sister, your blood. Your family. And yet you let her be-" Loki cut himself off, sniffling then sighing.
Thor gave his brother a sad look. "She is, and I love her dearly, just as I love you. But you saw what she did. She sliced your face open. She threatened hundreds of people."
Loki looked at Thor with a silent desperate plea before looking back at Y/N, his eyes widening. "Thor... I don't think it was her."
