Welcome home, Lucy Gilmore

The phone rang. I processed the fact that the phone was ringing, but didn't respond until my roommate said—in her words—"Answer the fucking phone otherwise there won't be a phone to answer."

"Go to hell," I murmured groggily into the phone.

Awww," Lorelai cooed from the other line, "I love you, too!"

"What do you want?"

"I need to tell you about my weird dream," she said in a voice too loud this late at night. "Wait one second, I'll get Rory on."

I scoffed. "Forget it. I'm not talking if she coming.

"Lucy, this is ridiculous—."

"It's not to me, Mom. She kissed him, okay? She kissed Jess. My boyfriend."

"He wasn't really your boyfriend then," Lorelai pointed out.

"You're unbelievable," I murmured. "I'm going back to bed. Bye."

"Bye."

I moved back to my bed and opened up my phone. I went to Jess's number and held my fingers over the buttons. This is what I've been doing for my entire stay in the city. I would start to text him, but chicken out. I knew that I had said that I didn't want him now and I wanted a break, but that was only for the summer. Now, I feared that when I came back to Stars Hollow, he would already be taken. And I would be too late. You snooze, you lose, I guess.

Every last day of the NYU workshop, there's an art gallery for the photography. Everyone chose one piece of work to showcase and I chose a picture I took of times square in all it's glory.

The title: New York Dream

The description: American mass advertisement at it's best.

I was admiring my work after the exhibit ended, when a boy came up next to me. "Nice. Very creative," he commented.

I grinned. "Thanks. Im very proud of it."

"Hey," he said. I turned to him. "So, i've been watching you for a while. I'm Aidan." I shook his hand. "We do the NYU workshop together." I nodded along as if I knew him. He kept going on and on about this and that and I soon found out that he was...pretty boring. At some point I drowned him out until he asked, "So, yes?"

I snapped back into reality. "I'm sorry. What did you ask?"

"I asked if you wanted to go out with me."

Aidan wasn't particularly bad looking, but his personality was as boring and annoying as slow internet connections. You think it will get better...but it won't.

I also took into consideration the fact that I had been taking a break from dating and this would've been my first date since...well, you know who. But since then, with the summer being over and all, I think I was ready again. Even after all my pondering, though, my answer was still, "Sorry. I like you," I lied, "but no."

I arrived at the airport in Hartford around noon. Lorelai was there to pick me up, but not Rory. My sister had gotten in about two hours earlier, but I had requested that she didn't come to pick me up. I didn't want to see her face.

I walked out of my gate and was met by Lorelai, holding a paper bag. "Hello, daughter!" She had screamed from the other end of the hall.

I ran to greet her. "Hey!"

After we hugged, Lorelai handed me the bag and said, "Just some 'welcome home' gifts!"

We sad down right in the middle of the busy hallway and I went through the bag. "Hartford mug, Hartford sunglasses, Hartford bear, shot glasses, sweatshirt, sweatpants—."
